My family has been racing on the islands for over 100 years out of Rockville. I have raced Sunfish, E-Scows and Hobie 16's there. It is a HUGE party. Want to go?

Sounds like a great place but is there a Hobie 16 class anymore?

If 5 or more boats show up.

And I can probably swing RV parking on Wadmallaw just down the road from the club (Allentown Plantation.)

Ive never been, but I have heard that this is the absolutest funnest event for sailing possibly in the US. Spectators line the shores and cheer you on, lots of cool ones, and southern hospitality.

I propose we add it to the EMSA schedule for 2009

I seem to recall that Harper did it several years ago and the logistics were a nightmare. I'm game to try it once though. Does it conflict with anything else on our schedule?

Logistics is always "Charming" at Rockville. No beach, all the other boats launch off trailer and will tie up on the water and water taxi back and forth or just sail. So I wonder if we have other options? Sometimes the E's would put in at Cherry point, just up the creek.

Is there a parking lot where we can keep the boats on wheels on?

There's not beach so to say at Spring Fever yet we all manage to figure out a way to get it done.

No parking lot. Just a clubhouse over 100 years old, lots of grass, one ramp and pier/dock. The drive up to the club is not paved. They use on an old tractor w/ hitch on front to drop all the boats in the water. We need to find a spot that is close by that can work for cats on beach wheels.

OR-
Be like the rest of the crowd and trailer launch.

~gasp~....

but seriously, my trailer boxes aren't really intended for submersion (they would probably be OK, but they're un-anodized 3003 aluminum that's moderately corrosion resistant - but I don't care to dunk them in salt water).

Don't put the trailer in the water. Just get the tires wet and push the boat off the back. That is how the H16's did it.

I'm still unsure why the beach wheel approach wouldn't work. From what I could gather, there's a lot of grass on which we could put the boats, and then a ramp from which we could beach wheel launch. Now unless the ramp was simply too steep to pull the boats back up....

It's more an issue of total number of boats using the one ramp and available parking space. I need to talk to locals about possible solutions.

I noticed another bland looking boat launch to the north east of there on the north side of the creek...it's probably crammed too during the regatta though?

That's probably Cherry Point. It was never crowded but that was 20 years ago. The E's used it regularly.
