Beach cat launching sites

Beach cat launching sites - 12/21/13 07:17 PM

hello,

Do you know if there's a list existing somewhere of places where we can launch beach cat in USA and Canada?

I've done a search on this forum and on Beachcat.com and only found a thread where few peoples were telling some launching sites they knew but it didn't go more than a few.

I think that could be beneficial to the communauty to have such a list. It could be a spreadsheet where every one can list the places they know with the details.

What do you guys think about it?

Basically government doesn't give a damn about small boats in general. Kayaks and canoes, maybe.

I don't think we should wait after the governments. If we had a recipient (spreadsheet or database), the members of this forum could list the one's they know and after a while we would get a pretty good list.

Actually, I am experimenting with Google Maps Engine Lite.

If it seems up to the job, I'll be back with an example,

I put a push pin on the Sanibel Causeway, not sure how else to mark it.

Thank you mbounds. The map in that forum is exactly what I was trying to achieve.

I couldn't figure out how to write a review but I did add the Sanibel Causeway Island which, imo, is a world class launching spot. Unfortunately the usage is legally precarious and was unlawful for many years. Now hand launching is permitted, you can't legally back a trailer into the water using your car but beach wheels are fine.

Lover's Key is a great launch site with a concrete ramp, the only problem being restriction to Estero Bay because of low bridges leading to the Gulf. There is a draw bridge at the north end of Lover's Key but the tide can make it very difficult to negotiate.

Otherwise, this is an absolutely beautiful place to sail, beach cats particularly.

If you do get a chance to sail here be careful of your feet! There are lots of oyster bars and they can really deliver some nasty cuts. Don't ask..

Springmaid Beach, Just south of Myrtle Beach proper, South Caroina. Nice parking lot to set up in, and a ramp over the dunes, it connects to the State park so its relatively sparse of people if you go south 100 yards from the ramp, and a good sailing spot. You can leave your boat on the beach or in the parking lot mast up. The only issue is when the boat is on the beach in the summer you have to leave your sails down so the lifegaurds can see.

Dave,

I am trying to locate the ramp you're talking about on goolgle earth. Is it located between the park and the resort or between the resort and the river?

Thank you,

South end between the resort and the state park, wooden ramp over the dunes, paved access parking lot leads to it.

In Pete's world, EVERYTHING is the job of the government- including maps for beachcat launches.
