24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/16/14 04:01 PM

Registration is open for the 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta here: http://www.juanaspagodas.com/RegattaNews.htm Don’t miss one of the most popular regattas around. Last year we had 70 boats, from Waves to a Nacra C20. Distance race in the Sound on Saturday, buoy races on Sunday, the party starts on Friday and continues through Sunday. This year Juana has a prize for the oldest Juana Good Time regatta t-shirt worn at Saturday night’s dinner. Hope to see you there!

Hey Dave , You leave us short boats alone !!!
We have a tendency to get SHORT BOAT SYNDROME, It gets pretty scary for the other guy.

It is a great place to sail - dependable sea breeze, protected water, great beach and amenities. The best advice I could give would be to schedule a few days before and after to enjoy the area (don't rush in, race and then rush out).

Also this year the Round The Island is the weekend after !

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/26/14 12:41 PM

I can't wait. I'm registered and getting the boat ready. Look for my Nacra 5.2 with the large skull and crossbones on the sail. No sail number. Let's race! I upgraded this year from a Hobie 14 to a 5.2. It should make for a shorter day on the distance race to Pensacola and back.

Unless your crew goes gorilla on the Cunningham and rips you main in half :-) In all fairness he did warn me. Nothing worse than having your crew say... told you so grandpa!

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/27/14 01:53 AM

with the new 24:48:1000 to 1 downhauls. The crew is only allowed to use one hand on the downhaul,,,

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/27/14 04:28 AM

Real men don't need more downhaul.

Real men eat pizza and drink a lot of beer the night before, just to bulk up for that big gust!

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/27/14 10:24 AM

Timbo . are you going to make Juanas and RTI ?

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/27/14 12:56 PM

Nope. I blew my racing budget on the Worlds in Newport, and with two more kids starting college in two weeks, I doubt I'll have a racing budget for many years to come.

I'm thinking of going to a paddleboard...if I can afford one!

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/28/14 04:11 PM

Only had it a few months... cut me some (more) slack dude! smile

Haven't even pulled the spin out of the bag yet. screetcher looks nice though.

There's enough F242 over here to make a fleet at CHR. 1 in punta gorda, 3 in Naples, and 1 in Ft. Myers if memory serves.

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/28/14 06:05 PM

Are you trailering or is it in the water? I think Timbo and I volunteered awhile back.

You raise the fleet, I can help grease the wheels with the race bosses.

I finally met Ding here last year, but it was way more fun watching his starting line antics. It reminded me of a conversation with some boys from Tennessee at the Hobie Mid Winters East at St. Augustine back in the 80', "We quit drinking beer while racing. Now we take a good swig of Jack Daniels at the 5 minute gun and get real aggressive for the start".

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 07/28/14 06:48 PM

On a trailer. I'm trying to reach out and talk them into it but they have the same excuses I do (crew, travel, AA meetings, probation, etc).

They said Buzzelli was too far, but CHR may be palatable as it's only 1 hour away. The Punta Gorda dude has no excuse for CHR.

Maybe it was his experience from last year as we previously discussed.

Hey guys I know this is kinda late but I have a student here in Fort Walton Beach from Puerto Rico that wants to sail. We found him a Hobie 16 but need to trailer it to Juana's or he's going to attempt to sail it from FWYC this afternoon. His name is Luis Rodriquez and his contacts are luismapur@yahoo.com / 787-354-7922.

Can anyone help?

Dave and all sailors - Congratulations on the turnout. The drone is right on. Phantom I or II?

Hope your brother enjoyed the N 17 and that you enjoyed the atmosphere. The Rudzkis and Kevin always put on a great show.

Any link to results?

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 09/09/14 06:28 PM

What a great venue and a fanstastic sail! You can find the results on the Juana's Facebook Page:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Juanas-Pagodas-and-Sailors-Grill/164977120863

The distance race on Saturday was everything a spin boat team could ask for. An efficent (VMG) upwind fetch to pensacola and a double trapped spin reach home. Even Mr. Doug (Blade1) took a break half way home so they could sail the rest of the way with Sweetness and me. Yes I did see your "oh sh!t", nice save by the way.

Mr. Smith had an idea about starting the spin boats on the outside and finishing us on the inside... kind of an RTI lite. It would be a bit more of a hassle for the OA but what a nice add. Of course it's only fun if there is company. Regardless of where Saturday is run I'm in! We're not driving home Sunday though, what a freaking drag!

Oh and about my brother... the little sh!t didn't even offer me a ride on his shiny new toy. I also need to find out why he spells his name funny.

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 09/09/14 10:16 PM

I was carried away by the drone video your brother made of the GT 300. My son told me last evening that he had spoken with Mr. Smith, who stated Sam, is your son. What is the call? Glad to see the Ingrams on F 18s and N 17s with drones to enhance the joy of spreading our wings.

I am really confused; guess I should have been there, but spent Saturday in the ER for cooking some meat I let sit out on Friday while working in the yard. That slowed me down a bit because by the time I was rescued I found my a## in Cantonment, FL. The good thing is I received great care and enjoyed Sunday football viewing a 60" HD tv.

Mahalo for the results' link,
B

Was the drone a Phantom I or II - maybe another design??? Better get 'em now while we can, without all the certification that might be lying in the road ahead ... Big Brother will soon be watching :-)

Re: 24th Annual Juana Good Time Regatta - 09/10/14 11:19 AM

Bert, I didn't create the drone video the creators name is posted with the video and we were not at the gt300. As for Sam, he's not my son I was just having a bit of fun there.

Post your drone questions on Juanas Facebook page I'm not sure if the creator visits this page.
