The real hard work was doing all the various permutations on various systems. We did it for the 16's first, since we had the most data and the broadest coverage (that's why some regattas don't have any results in other classes).
But then, what seemed to work for the 16's didn't for the 17's (the next class we did). Seems that large fleets in one area of the country skewed the results too much. Back to the drawing board. Finally, after about a year of fooling around with it, we settled on the formula, Fluffy entered the data (it even gives points for RC duty) and we put it up.
Getting the data was a hassle. Usually, we had to grab it off web sites. The quality was pretty bad, too. No first names. No last names! No automated entry here - Fluffy put it in all by hand. We're putting up a recommended reporting format for 2005 that'll (hopefully) make it easier.
The spreadsheets on the HCA web site have all the formulas and data entry sheets removed so that they'll download in a reasonable amount of time. The full, working Hobie 16 spreadsheet is over 10Mb!
Now it's time to go set up the 2005 sheet. This crap never ends.
