Looking to replace my very old original spin sheets.
Any suggestions on length, diameter and material would be great.
They are for an F18 (Mystere) with mid-pole snuffer and a second set of forward turing blocks on front beam.

Measure the length you have now. Diameter shouldn't be less than 5/16 IMO and you can go with $$$$ like endurabraid, warpspeed, swiftcord or $$$ like salsa/Apex or $ like bzzz, trophy braid. Ultralight would work also, though I like the idea of single braids for the spin sheets. Bzzz is good stuff though not as durable as the others and probably absorbs more water (trophy absorbs a lot). I have personally used trophy, bzzz, and salsa. Salsa and bzzz seems equivalent to me really though the salsa is probably better.
If you aren't highly competitive then go with the bzzz. 0.67c a foot, don't see it in the online catsailor store though.

Anyone know the length needed to run the sheet in the "/\/\" form? My current one isn't long enough and holding it in good wind can be rigorous.

It has great hand, holds very little water. We put eye splices in the end, and use an 18" 1/8" spectra luggage tag to attach the the spin clew.

I think its 55ft, but my old sheets are in my trailer box, under a few feet of snow...

IMHO the type of sheet and thickness of the sheet will depend on the type of sailing you will be doing eg if its long distance racing personally I use a slightly fatter sheet than if im racing windward leeward.
Personally I prefer maffioli swiftcord but the Alpha line is very good too....but generally I agree with mikekrantz 7 or 8 mm personally 8mm

Wuss. 6mm FSE Robline for me - I also like the Swiftcord.

My crew says swiftcord is the way to go. That is what he has and I don't touch his line per his request.

if you gonna go 6, why not lose more weight and just go 7/64 amsteel.

Nope - the Swiftcord and similar lines have a nice feel and the 6mm runs really nice through the 57mm Harken Autos. I also double-block the 'chute and make sure the ratchets are set right; loads are really not bad.

Jake - that's the same sheet you had in your hands for Tradewinds the year we did it on my boat. Of course, we finished better the year we were on your boat, so draw your own conclusions.

Mark Smith was famous among crews for having the same downhaul line on his Nacra 6.0 for years. In the bar, we called it "the Saw." Had a life of its own. He tried to put it onto his first Nacra 20 - I bought him a new line. He complained because the new line was so limp and he could "see it stretch." I'd bet Amsteel would feel the same as the Saw only slipperier! Bad combo...

6 mm!! Ouch! Self-flagellation went out in the middle ages... (What's the basis of the penance? Blow too many snuffs at the leeward mark?

I know for a fact i have 45' on my mystere 5.5 (f-18 spin) but wouldnt mind a few more feet so i could trap with the sheet (just a few feet short).
