Mitt Romney stayed at Bain 3 years longer than he stated

Maybe this explains it.

Wowsers Forrest, that's quite a list. Did you put it together all by yourself or did you (gasp!) copy and paste it? Isn't copy and paste against the wingnut creed?

Why did you leave out the birth certificate stuff?

It's all good Forrest. Rmoney explains everything. Do you use bath salts?

Hello, human diary. It is I, Mitt Romney, your better.

The press units are in a fevered state today over issues involving Bain Capital, my old company, and specifically whether I ceased my occupations there in 1999, as I have stated, or in later years, as my SEC filings have stated. I believe their confusion arises because they do not understand how business operates. SEC filings are not legally binding things; they are more like yearbook signatures to be given to the government. Hello, government, how are you, this was a fine year, was it not hilarious when I gave that fellow a haircut that one time, and so forth. It is a good opportunity to remind the government that you are a successful unit of wealth, but not so successful that you ought to be taxed for it—that sort of thing. None of it is of actual legal significance. If these reporters were successful investor units, they would understand it better.

Today I am traveling to the Wyoming home of previous vice presidential unit Richard "Dick" Cheney. We will be engaging in yet another fundraiser aimed at gathering the contributions of other units of great wealth. As with my recent trip to the NAACP, this event seems to require stricter behavior on my part than would normally be the case, though for different reasons. Apparently the former vice president is a greatly irritable unit, and an aficionado of torture, extradition and firing shotguns into the faces of his acquaintances. The descriptions of him make him sound so ominous that I had to ask my staff whether or not he was perhaps on bath salts.

Among my instructions: Do not make any sudden movements. Do not mention anything regarding Richard Nixon. Always announce yourself when entering a room, and avoid lingering in the former vice president's many blind spots. Other than that, it is to be a standard fundraiser, but I confess the presumed dangers do add an unusual sense of tension. In the end, however, I suspect it will be no more eventful than my Hamptons trip, although if the former vice president insists on also going on about how his nail salon ladies do not understand presidential politics, I may have to excuse myself early.

Jeez Forrest, please accept my apology. Looks like I spoke too soon.

Dear Ms. Gitcho (Rmoney communications director):

We received your request late this afternoon for a correction regarding this morning’s Globe story. Having carefully reviewed that request, we see no basis for publishing a correction. The Globe story was entirely accurate.

The Globe story was based on government documents filed by Bain Capital itself. Those described Governor Romney as remaining at the helm of Bain Capital as its “sole stockholder, chairman of the board, chief executive officer, and president” until 2002. The story also cited state financial disclosure forms filed by Romney that showed he earned income as a Bain “executive” in 2001 and 2002, separate from investment earnings.

The Globe story accurately described the contents of those documents.

The Globe story also gave a full account of the Romney campaign’s position that, notwithstanding several years of regulatory filings, Mitt Romney “retired from Bain Capital in 1999 … (and) has had no involvement in the management or investment activities of Bain Capital, or with any of its portfolio companies, since that time.” In your correction request, you reiterate points that are fully detailed in the Globe story.

Sincerely,

Martin Baron
Editor, The Boston Globe

Sorry to be a flip flopper Forrest but Rmoney has another explanation. Are you a boring white male? You could be VP.

Hello, human diary. It is I again, Mitt Romney, your better.

The questions about my tenure at Bain, specifically about the period of time I was not at Bain but still in charge of it, except when I was not in charge of it, depending on who is asking, have continued to mount. We briefly tried to convince reporter units to choose a different topic of discussion by announcing that it was possible that we were not going to be choosing a boring white male as my vice presidential unit after all, but nobody truly believed that we would really choose someone who was not a boring white male, so it was a bit of a dud.

In an effort to give this story the best possible haircut, we therefore decided that I would be breaking my famous media silence and granting interviews to reporter units from each major network so that I can give them my version of events. These interviews accomplished, I cannot wait to watch the television device tonight to find out what I said.

Monica chants taunt Clinton in Egypt
July 16, 2012

Protesters threw tomatoes and shoes at Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's motorcade on Sunday during her first visit to Egypt since the election of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.
A tomato struck an Egyptian official in the face, and shoes and a water bottle landed near the armoured cars carrying Clinton's delegation in the port city of Alexandria.
A senior state department official said that neither Clinton nor her vehicle, which were around the corner from the incident, were struck by any of the projectiles.
Protesters chanted: "Monica, Monica", a reference to Former President Bill Clinton's extra-marital affair. Some chanted: "leave, Clinton", Egyptian security officials said.
It was not clear who the protesters were or what political affiliations they had. Protesters outside Clinton's hotel on Saturday night chanted anti-Islamist slogans, accusing the United States of backing the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power.

Ties with the United States, which provides Egypt with an annual $US1.3 billion in military aid, were strained this year when Egyptian judicial police raided the offices of several US-backed non-governmental organisations on suspicion of illegal foreign funding and put several Americans on trial.

Honk your horn Forrest, Chumlee will blow the bubbles.

Hello again, human diary. It is I, Mitt Romney, your better.

This really is no fun anymore. I do believe these people are serious in their insistence on wanting to know more details about how I made my vast fortune. We have sent out surrogate units to respond by suggesting that the president is acting insufficiently American, since questioning wealth is one of the least American things we can imagine, but so far the results are quite mixed. Even some of the units on my own side have been not on my side.

If questioning the national authenticity of the president is insufficient, and if threatening to perhaps make that Sarah Palin person our vice presidential nominee if everyone does not immediately silence themselves is insufficient, and if asserting that whatever may have happened during those irritating years retroactively did not happen after all is also insufficient, I am at a loss as to what our campaign should do next. While I am surprised myself to be saying it, Mr. Diary, this now seems above the level that merely blowing bubbles or honking bus horns can deal with. It does not even seem the sort of thing that the Super PACs can help with, although perhaps they will surprise me.

All I can do is keep reminding the commoner units that I, as a unit of great wealth, understand what it is like to want money very badly, and that they should therefore vote for me as the American thing to do. Surely, we are not so cruel a nation as to truly subject a wealth unit to the same scrutiny that other, less wealthy candidates are given. Even imagining such a thing is frightening.

How come you're not on top of this Forrest? Todd wouldn't let it slip by.

“Real” story behind Arpaio's birther news conference

We blew it, again.

All of us in the media. We completely missed the story. Again.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio along with the volunteer members of his posse and their partner from the conspiracy web site WorldNetDaily held another press conference Tuesday concerning their investigation into the birth certificate of President Barack Obama.

The posse relied heavily on its “expert,” Jerome Corsi, who once called Islam a “worthless, dangerous Satanic religion,” referred to Hillary Clinton as a “fat hog” and to her daughter as “Chubby Chelsea.”

The WND website also launched the swift-boat attacks on former presidential candidate John Kerry, published a six-part series of commentaries under the headline “Soy is making kids 'gay,' and said former President George W. Bush and the Council on Foreign Relations and who-knows-who-else were plotting to merge the United States, Canada and Mexico.

At Tuesday’s press conference Arpaio, his posse and their expert again announced that the birth certificate of President Barack Obama is a fake and – once again – the assembled news gathering professionals got the story wrong.

After all the presentations, the videos and the question-and-answer period after the press conference the headline to come out of the event is not: “Obama birth certificate a fake”

Or: “State and federal authorities involved in massive cover-up."

Or: "Every single birth certificate in Hawaii is suspect? (Say it ain't so, Don Ho.)"

Or: “Why is the entire world ignoring us!!!!???”

Each of them would reflect the impression left from Tuesday's press conference but wouldn't tell the REAL story. The only proper headline to accompany a sideshow like the one put on by Arpaio and his cronies on Tuesday would have to be:

“All Crimes in Maricopa County Solved!”

After all, if there were actual criminals perpetrating actual misdeeds within the sheriff’s jurisdiction would he have time to engage in another birther extravaganza?

No.

So, every crime must be solved. Every investigation must be completed. He must have NOTHING else to do.

And there must be no other potentially embarassing news event pending from which the sheriff would like to divert attention.

For instance, you don’t suppose the press conference Tuesday had anything to do with the fact that the class-action lawsuit against the sheriff (Melendres v. Arpaio) is set to go to trial later this week in Federal District Court?

Naaah.
