More numbers Todd.

The Obama administration saw its first monthly budget surplus in April, with the federal government recording $58 billion, according to figures released by the Congressional Budget Office.

The surplus -- the first of Barack Obama’s presidency -- was the result of both increased tax collection and lower government spending.

Prior to April, the federal government's last surplus dates back to September 2008.

If all of Chumlee's real and imaginary women sign up for this Rush will have zero new members. Maybe our stormtrooper in The War On Women will get his wife to sign up.

Rush Limbaugh's Desperate Attempt at Luring In Women

Rush Limbaugh just announced, in an effort to counteract the "National Organization for Women" and their (valid) "attacks" against him, he formed a Facebook page forLimbaugh Conservative women. I guess he figured that was the least he could do, literally the least he could do.

His new Facebook group goes by "Rush Babes for America". What immediately strikes me is that, apparently to Rush, there are only two kinds of women, babes and feminazis...could he not think of a less patronizing name? Or did he not realize that being called a babe is not a respectable way to refer to women?

His page is dedicated to "the millions of conservative women who know what they believe in: family, American values and not being told by faux feminist groups how to think."

But so far, his page only has 22,000 likes...just a few short of "millions".

This quote pretty much sums up how he thinks...

"The National Organization for Women is not a female organization. It's a liberal organization disguised as a group that's interested in the rights of women. These groups, they happen to have 'woman' or 'women' in their names, and they're claiming to represent all women. And in reality, they represent a tiny number of highly-agitated activist types. They're basically miserable and unhappy women, for whatever reason."

That's news to me, as a woman, that the National Organization for Women is not about women. It's about liberals. And I guess me wanting basic human rights makes me a "miserable and unhappy" woman. I think he's missing the rest of the explanation for that part though. I'm only miserable and unhappy when my human rights are attacked for no apparent reason, other than I was born with a uterus.

He goes on to attack Bill Maher, who recently tweeted some joke about Bristol Palin, basically saying that if Bill Maher can make jokes, why can't he? Umm, the immediate reason that comes to mind if the Bill Maher is [censored] comedian - he tells jokes for a living, it's kind of his thing. No one is watching his show under the misguided idea that it's meant to be a news program. The other main reason is that Bill Maher is on HBO, no need to worry about pesky advertisers or sponsors.

The National Organization for Women launched a campaign ("Enough Rush") to have the him taken off the air. The campaign has several rallies planned later this month, to which Rush responded that NOW doesn't care about conservative women. That there are "many more" conservative women that listen to and agree with Rush's sexism than are in the NOW. Now those conservative women should be outraged (?) that women are standing up for women's rights and standing up to a flamboyant sexist chauvinist. Now Rush has answered their calls and created a FB page for all these conservative women to rant about how much they hate women's rights organizations.

Do you like show music Todd? Then you'll love the GOoPer Climate Follies!

Republican climate folly
As temperatures break records, the GOP holds firm: The less we know about global warming, the better

By Andrew Leonard

Frank Gehrke, chief of snow surveys for the Department of Water Resources, stands in a snow-free meadow at Echo Summit, Calif. Warm spring weather, combined with lower then normal precipitation, caused the statewide snowpack water content to be only 40 percent of normal for this time of year. (Credit: AP/Rich Pedroncelli)

Whatever adjective you choose — ironic? tragic? ludicrous? — the outcome of a series of budget votes held in the GOP-controlled House on Tuesday was definitely interesting. The chamber was wrangling over a series of amendments to an appropriations bill for the Departments of Commerce and Justice. The battle line was drawn between senior Republicans trying to resist further spending cuts, and young Turks looking to slash and burn.

In every case but one, the senior Republicans (with the help of Democrats) proved victorious. The lone exception? An amendment proposed by Maryland’s Andy Harris, cutting $542,000 in funding for a climate website at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

After all, who needs more information about the climate? It’s not like there’s been anything weird going on with the weather lately.

Oh wait. On the same day that the House voted to reduce funding for NOAA, the agency announced that the United States had just recorded its warmest 12-month period of temperatures since records started being kept in 1895.

The Washington Post provided some highlights of the report:

In the last year, the U.S. has experienced its second hottest summer, fourth warmest winter (December through February) and warmest March on record. And NCDC announced April 2012 was third warmest on record…

The degree by which some states and regions have exceeded their norms so far this year is incredible, and record-setting… The U.S. Climate Extremes Index – that tracks extremes in temperatures, precipitation and tropical cyclones – showed a record 42 percent of the country experienced extreme weather during the first four months of the year, primarily exceptional warmth.

The amendment’s author, Andy Harris, is the chairman of a House Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment. He has previously criticized NOAA’s funding requests for a climate-related initiative on the grounds that “the climate services could become little propaganda sources instead of a science source.”

So, for fear of being exposed to propaganda, we’ll just stick our heads in the sand and wait until our asses fry off. I guess it’s better not to know what’s happening to the planet, if we’re not going to do anything about it anyway.

The latest shiny object to distract the plebs

Gay marriage. Sovereign debt crises, the brink of World War III, the coming American default, a stagnant economy, the police state, and more. These things are mere trifles compared to the great important issue of our time: gay marriage.

At least that's what the mass media will do its best to convince us over the election season as it makes this issue the great issue of the year. Having an opinion about economics and financial crises and monetary policy is so taxing, after all. It requires that one read books 'n stuff. But hey, anyone can have an opinion about gay marriage, so why not spend all night on Facebook debating that while the European economy inches ever closer to chaos. It's so much easier.

But hey, this is the issue that interests our betters in the media. They know its a hip and cool topic because their peers told them so at a Nantucket pool party last summer. Getting bummed about war is so 1969. Who needs all that hassle? So bombs away, in Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. I'm sure those toddlers deserved to be incinerated. But please come to my gay wedding on Maui! It's important to know what's important.

Get government out of marriage, by the way, and the idea that there even needs to be a "national discussion" on the topic is ludicrous. Which one of the enumerated powers of Article I of that 1787 parchment refers to marriage? None of them.
