I think it is sad/amazing/dumb (you pick the adjective) that a whole lot of Americans are willing to believe the very worst of our leaders while at the same instant give the largest benefit of the doubt to sworn enemys of this country. Reading some of the above, you would think Gitmo is housing The Iraqui Boys Club. These people were taken off the battlefield, correct? And some they have released, they have been recaptured on the battlefield I believe. Did they kill any Americans before being recaptured? IF so, the blood is on the hands of those that allowed the release in my opinion.

You are basically saying that because you just happen to have been born in the USA you are more privileged and should have more and better rights than anyone else in the world. That's crap. Karl, torture doesn't get intelligence. Nothing in my post talks about guilt or innocence. Surely you can accept the landfill-sized documentation going back to the Inquisition that torture doesn't produce reliable results. The guilt or innocence of the subject is not relevant in the least. The innocent will lie to make you stop and the guilty will, too. It's indistinguishable. And if you get one innocent one - even one - then you've only made more of the enemy you were trying to ferret out. That approach is simply stupid - demonstrably so across centuries.

Your Patton example is unrelated, but if he's someone you admire, I might guess that you've read up on him a bit. Did Patton (or his CIC) ever use a "pussy" term like "enemy combatant?" Did Patton, who had extraordinary power and independence on the battlefield, ever use torture?

You freely mix obvious mistakes our country has made with simplistic "glass parking lot" statements. We screwed the pooch in Iraq - they had nothing to do with WTC, they did not have the capacity to come after us, and it was stupid to invade. It isn't being "weak" to pull back, but it is incredibly moronic to go ahead and "level the mosque" because there are some guys in there shooting at us for invading their country.
