Whats the ideal helm weight for a cat rigged Mozzie with kite?

Assuming boat was a near new class minimum foam core boat.

well i can say that im probably the lightest at 66kg, was 71 till i got sick on a weekend and all my hard work at gym went crashing down, so im back to 66,
im still on the light side, but my ideal weight is to be 70kg, thats what im aiming for

Don't know there is a ideal weight, last time I sailed Mossies, about 4 years ago I was 95kg+ and did ok, now I am 73kg- and doing ok. It's just a matter of adjusting sail settings, the Mossies flexible mast helps.

I'm saving for a new boat (cat rigged 4.9 with kite). Taipan or mozzie? Seems to me I'm on the weight border at 85kg, more likely suited to a Taipan.

Gary, from what I understand you lost weight and now are too light for the F16?

Drew here Jon. Would be real cool if you went the mossie path !
I weigh in at 82kg and do OK in mixed fleets with a 20 year old boat.
Not sure against other mossies, will know after Jan Nats. I have a strategy for that though with a light weight crew.....
The mossie is lighter and IMO more versatile than the Taipan. Nothing wrong with a Taipan - they are just heavier and yes a bigger sail plan. If you want a kite why not simply go F16.
The current mossies well sailed give all other classes a hard time and quite often come out on top, just look through the regatta results and posts on forums.
From Canberra you would be able to get down to Vic or SA for a lot of regattas as well with plenty of mossies.

Gary when you say you did ok at 95 kg is that the year you won the national titles on Peter N's boat?

85kg is no worries for a Mossie Cat rigged,National Champs have been that weight or more for last 15 years I think and with spinnaker I went ok at 95kg as I said.

Low 70's kg is definetly a bit light for cat rigged F16, I feel more comfortable on the Mossie now.

If I was making the choice between Taipan and Mossie, firstly I would consider how much I like being over powered, as Taipan has more power flys a hull earlier, but is more quickly over powered, not a problem if you like high winds and pushing the limits on your previous boat, also look at conditions you would sail it in most of the time.

Second choice would be comparing Mossie against Taipan in value for what you are getting, how old, good are the hulls, rig, sails etc. How competitive would the boat be in it's class, I think that would be my final decision maker they are both good cats with individual pros and cons. Also if you want to race in class or happy with handicap, others of the class sailing localy would influence decision.

I was mainly thinking with spinnaker, but I was around 95kg+ when I won nationals, in fact most of the time I sailed Mossies, including the early days sloop rigged, I was around 95kg .

Drew, next time I'm up in Cleveland I am keen to continue the challenge. I'm now running a Spi on the 4.5 one up and slowly getting the hang of it.
