Forgive me if I go wild on this guys, but I see that typically the hartwell regatta has 7 races. Now I know that some of you US sailors are solo sailors. Would it be possible to give this F16 race an extra twist ?
They US solo sailor might have a little difficulty to attract crews for the friday race (probably 2 races)
And some F16 crews may have to come from afar where bringing ones own boat is problamatic. Now they can hook up with a solo sailor and form a 2-up crew. Mayb David Chamberline who now lives in Austria EU can be persuade to come too and Gebhart etc.
Now maybe we can make the friday races 1-up races where both skipper and crew race one race. Ofcourse the US solo sailors can race both races.
We count these races as doubleso that we even the odds a bit over the crews. For example, I know John P. is a very good sailor but I'm not so sure how Sue holds up while solo sailing. I can tell you all that a similar phenomenon is encountered in my own team. And ofcourse I'm known to flip the cat "once in a while". All things that will open up the competition a bit more and make it more fun.
So I propose to make the
-1- Friday races F16 1-up races, where 2-up crewsmembers must each sail one race.
-2- Count the results of these races double.
-3- make the saterday and sunday races 2-up races, where solo sailors arrange for a crew or maybe where two 1-ups form 1 "2-up".
-4- Thus score a total of 9 races when all 7 are sailed and have 45 % solo impact and 55 % 2-up impact
Sound to me that is more fair to all if not alot more FUN !!
What do you say ?
