A message for Dutch F16 wannabees, I'm appologize for continuing in Dutch.

Beste Lezers,

Wouter

Hey Eric,
Which part didn`t you get, the Dutch text in the first post, or the full-stop in the second ? .

Basically there are two 2nd-hand Taipan 4.9`s in F16 mode for sale in Holland at the moment, first come first served.
Contact Wouter if you`re interested.

Oh yes, and he would prefer these boats to remain in Holland to help build up the Dutch F16 class. Sorry Wouter, didn`t mean to blow your strategy there. I`m sure if there are no takers in Holland he will advertise them on the "open" market a bit later. Good luck with finding buyers, Wouter, from your message I gather you shouldn`t have too difficult a time matching these boats with eager new owners ! Just make sure they`re from your club, so you have more competition to sail with !!

Steve,
Thanks, the full stop had me stumped too.
Now I see why the post was in Dutch.

Regards,
Phill

Ugh, dutch is a really annoying language! It's incomprehensible when listening to it, but it's so similar to germanic languages that I can read it and grasp the meaning of it.

Are you still speaking your local version of dutch (afrikaans?) in South Africa? I tought it was mostly english (and some zulu) these days..

Hi Rolf,
Actually, about 28 million people speak African languages such as Zulu & Xhosa, while about 4 million speak English or Afrikaans, about a 50% split between the two.
We have 11 official languages, so business is done mostly in English to avoid the Tower of Babel syndrome.

Yeah, Afrikaans is a mixture of Dutch, Flemish, German and a bit of French, so it`s a real mess.
Like you, I can read Dutch and get most of the meaning, I can also listen to a Dutch conversation if they aren`t speaking too fast (which they always do to avoid folks like me listening in )
I`d have to disagree with you though, to me spoken Dutch sounds quite a soft melodic language compared to Afrikaans or German.
I`ll never get your language - aren`t you guys the ones who cross out all the letters after you`ve written them ??

28 millions.. "some" Zulu was a gross understatement

I dont think I can agree with dutch being a melodic language, to many sounds from the depth of the throat for my taste. It's far softer than german, but as I understand german, its different compared to listening to an comprehensible language.

Crossing out letters after writing them? Hmm, I dont think I understand what you are pointing at. We do have some additional letters: Æ, Ø, Å, but we dont cross them out. Perhaps you are thinking about icelandic, they cross the "i"s and other letters. All the scandinavian languages (except finnish, if you count that as part of scandinavia) have a common origin, so we pretty much understand each other. Icelandic is closest to the original form, hence the need for some 'special' letters to denote different sounds. Ancient norse was a guttural language, compared to both dutch, current scandinavian languages and I guess afrikaans. But I kind of like icelandic anyway (after all, they are all norwegians if you reasearch their history), and they dont adopt english words. They invent new words themselves instead, so computer terminology have a completely different glossary out there.

If you want to learn norwegian, you are very welcome to visit us

Not much cat-sailing in Iceland I believe..

"We do have some additional letters: Æ, Ø, Å,"
You see what I mean, you just crossed out your "O" !!

Hey, this has to be one of the most successful thread-hijacks in recent times. Sorry Wouter !!
