Hello Gentleman,

Just in the process of completing a deal on a Mystere 5.5 (18') going to pick it up next week and trailer it back home to Southern Ontario (Mississauga). Anyone know any good places to sail around here?

Sylvester

Hi Sylvester,
If you are looking for a good place to keep your boat, Etobicoke Yacht club is probably your best bet. Great facilities, showers, bar etc.
We also have a very active racing schedule. See:
http://www.cat-alist.com/notices/2007/2007_orca_schedule.htm

The most popular events in Ontario are the ones marked ORCA. Great bunch of people..very friendly. Let me know if you have any other questions..

Hi Sylvester,
We are are also planning a trainning weekend at my club on a small lake north of Guelph (Belwood L. in Fergus) in May, listed on the ORCA events.
Great little lake in the spring with camping. Good for new sailors and seasoned vets to shake the rust off.
cheers
Ryan

Great! I sailed lasers and 420s for the last 3 years and crewed on a 56 foot classic yacht located at the Port Credit Marina but this will be my first Cat so I would love to go out with some other people and learn a bit from them. I’m heading down to Tennessee to pick it up next weekend. I bought it partially for my pleasure but also as a present for my dad for working his butt off and paying for my university tuition.

Dave thanks for the info on the Etobicoke Yacht Club I’m going to have to check that out. Currently the plan is to take it to a friends shop for the winter to work on it. Seal the mast, replace the lines, and make sure everything is safe. I was thinking of storing it at the Port Credit Marina Yacht Club or Marina but never seen a single Cat there…

Ryan I’ll definitely try and make that event. I go to UofGuelph so it’s not to far…

Another quick question…I did a bunch of research and read the forums about the Mystere manufacture, what’s the deal with them? Can’t get parts anymore?

Sylvester,
Thats funny, I am a grad student at UofG, sitting on campus now. The lake is only 20 min from campus. We also race Wed nights and Sun afternoons all summer!
cheers

Yeah I just checked out the ORCA Schedule and noticed you have the uofg email. Sounds great looking forward to some quality racing this summer? Do you guys go solo or skip/crew?

Hi Ryan,
How many boats do you get out on a Wed or Sunday?

Hey Dave,
We get a lot of dingies (CL, Laser, scows) but only 3-4 Cats on a regular basis. We get my Twister, 2 Tigers and a Tornado out. We have a huge fleet of cats (lots of Dart 18, hobie 14,16,17 and 18's and tornadoes) but they never race. I am hoping that having the training weekend at the club will bring some of these boats out.
cheers
Ryan

Do you guys store your boats on Belwood Lake or trailer?

How safe do you guys feel sailing on Lake Ontario? Like if something breaks or what ever situation the whole idea of getting back to land. I had a situation or two last summer where the rudder ripped off its hinges once and the other time the mast broke. Luckily the lake was small and we had some people watching us just in case so they picked us up. I'm assuming you never go out just one boat on Lake Ontario.

Hi Ryan,

If your sailing in Ontario, you'll want to
touch base with Karen-Ann Xavier from her cat-alist.com
site. From her site, go to "Notices" for a schedule
of all the upcoming 2007 events (there's quite a few).

Cheers

Steve
