    It's that time again! Time to start thinking about a summer vacation at Put-in-Bay, located on beautiful South Bass Island. The island, one of the many shelf islands located in western Lake Erie is a pristine, fun-filled island with lots of exciting entertainment, great sailing, fun wineries, superb restaurants and many great tourist attractions such as Perry's Monument (3rd tallest in the world), caves, shops, tours and fishing. "House in the Woods" is again available this year for short-term rentals. We were booked up early last year, so please contact us soon to reserve the dates you want.

    This 3-bedroom, 2-bath, Cape Cod-style house is in a wooded, secluded location -- under a green canopy of some of the largest trees on the island. Yet it is very close to town -- only 15 minutes by foot and 5 minutes by bicycle (an enjoyable walk or ride, because it is almost entirely along the bayfront). The house is at 621 New Colony Road (which is actually a private lane), over toward the West Shore, and close to the harbor, although it does not have a harbor view.

    It sleeps eight people very comfortably, and we do limit the occupancy to eight. There are ceiling fans and window fans, and the forest keeps the place nice and cool even on the hottest days in the summer.

    On the first floor are a complete, all-electric kitchen with range and refrigerator, coffemaker, microwave, and a washing maching & dryer (no garbage disposal or automatic dishwasher); living room; a large bedroom and smaller bedroom; and a full bath with tub/shower. (The large bedroom has two set of bunkbeds, and the smaller bedroom has a double bed.)

    On the second floor is a large room with two twin beds, and bathroom with shower.

    WHAT WE DO PROVIDE:

    • A picnic table, gas barbecue grill, bonfire ring, and TV.
    • The beds are equipped with mattress pads, pillows and bedspreads.
    • The kitchen, in addition to the appliances, is equipped with a teakettle, dishes, glasses, cups, pots and pans, silverware, mixing bowls, cooking utensils, potholders, icecube trays, etc.
    • We provide basic cleaning supplies, like a vacuum cleaner, broom and dustpan, dish detergent, and all-purpose spray cleaner, sponges, dish towels, etc.
    • If you use the gas grill, we supply the gas.
    • The water is well water, and it is excellent water -- unlike some areas of the island, where the taste and smell are not very pleasant.
    • We also supply trash removal. We have rubbish pickup once a week, so you can leave your trash in the cans provided on the premises.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

    • Sheets, pillowcases and blankets.
    • Towels & washcloths.
    • Personal soap.
    • Toilet paper & Paper towels.
    • All your food, seasonings and coffee, tea, sugar, etc. Groceries are not particularly expensive on the island, but the selection is more limited.
    • First-aid kit.
    • Matches.
    • Flashlights (to find your way home at night -- it is dark on the island)
    • Bicycles are recommended to get around the island. Parking is very limited in town.
    • Camera film -- sometimes the stores run out.
    • Laundry detergent if you plan to wash clothes.
    • Trash bags.
