Athletes in Action Hit the Beach First

The normal leaders were dethroned in today's leg as Athletes in Action finished almost four minutes ahead of any other boats. This would be the final leg for Matt Struble to be sailing-- what a way to go out!

Castrol has again resurfaced to the top of the head, taking second spot well ahead of the next finisher. Folks have been asking about Tommy Bahama. Well, here they are taking third spot.

Note: We have had some email saying folks were unable to get the video to play properly. Our tech expert says that it will probably not work on Netscape and you need to have Internet Explorer 4.0 or better to view the site properly.

And the proverbial dual between Tybee Island and Alexanders took on the same tone as they finished again only 18 seconds apart.

Tybee still owns first overall, followed closely by Alexanders, but Athletes and Castrol closed a lot of ground in today's great finishes.

Below Caliente capsized in the surf and here they are righting it

Fully Involved missed the gate and made a comeback, but in the process ran over Rick Bliss -- past Worrell champion who helps out by supplying parts and getting run over by boats :-) Check out the video below:

Fleet Sighted About 15 Miles Out at 2:30

We are expecting the first boat around 3:30

They're Off and Running with No Mishaps

The wind had shifted a bit more to the south and it appeared that it could be a spinnaker start. However, there was only one team that decided to try it. Tommy Bahama attempted the chute start but lost valuable ground in the process

The surf was wild and pretty large considering the lightness of the wind. We were able to get these pictures

Tommy Bahama was the only team that started with their spinnaker

The following was from earlier this morning

It looks like more of the same etoday as far as the weather goes. The wind is light out of the ESE which should allow the boats to get tehrough the surf and pop spinnakers right away. And again the surf is going to be a factor -- nothing like the huge surf that devastated the fleet last year, but still something to be reckoned with.

We really would like to apologize for the shutdown coming up this afternoon. Guess you could call it "Good News.., Bad News" in a way. Good news is that the site has taken so many hits that the server is suffering a brownout and the other customers their have been complaining. The bad news is we have to improve the band width.

So, we are moving to a Broader Band Width. This will take about an hour to accomplish. This move is planned for 2PM today. Please be patient during that time. Thanks a million!

We received the following E-mail and thought we could pass it along to all those following the race:
Rick, Team Alexander's On The Bay is putting together a cookout party at the hotel General Mitchell. You may remember we did one last year. We will be supplying fried fish and bar-b-q and Carter with Team Rudee's will be doing a pig roast. I talked to Team Howard's Pub before I left South Beach Sunday and they will be participating also. This should be a big affair for everyone, tell all of the teams to have dinner on us at the hotel. Brian Camden, Team Alexanders

Ned Barbee has been shooting video for Bay Wind and Tommy Bahama and dropped by to offer some shots for you all to see. Click on the hot links below to view the video:

Stand by for the start!
