Why doesn't Hobie upgrade its mylar laminate sail and move to a more modern and durable sails such as Pentex? It's time for me to update my sails and it kills me to spend all that money on mylar sails with their known problems. At what point does any manufacturer or class decide its time to upgrade?

I understand the need for conformity and to level the playing field. But if you're going to spend all that money on a new set of sails (and I assume competitive sailors routinely purchase new sails), why not do it with a more modern and durable material like Pentex?

Perhaps Hobie could offer both Mylar & Pentax (or some other material) sails.

I'd like to hear different perspectives or concerns with migrating to a newer material. Matt, what would Hobie's concerns be?
