Only for core to cover splices - not for eye splices on double braid line. Most of my splicing is high tech single braid. I don't use brummel splices - I interlock the tail three times then bury a few inches with a taper. I then lock stich - as high tech splices can certainly open up if loaded and unloaded (e.g. trap lines). Perhaps I should stop being cheap and throw down for the Toss wand.

I use haemostats (see picture below) as an extra pair of hands when splicing, as well as blue painters tape to secure line to the fid and a sharpy marker to lay out the splice and identify where to cut lines for the taper.
