I just got home after watching the start. one of the Royal boys had an early lead. The Roberts' boat started in the middle but was taking boats quickly, by 8:10 they had a good lead. Wind was East to ESE. I couldn't judge the wind because I was on the top of the RICKENBACKER Causeway. It was probably 15Knts on the bridge.
