I went along with the ground crews last year for my first trip; having been involved with the Worrell 1000 and the Tybee 500, I have to say that Steve and his race administration do a great job, and the logistics aren't as challenging as I'd expected. The Texas geography is more conducive to a spinnaker run than the East Coast races, and the distance makes it a challenge that fits nicely into a long weekend. While this sort of racing isn't for the ill-prepared, the Great Texas has managed to distill off-shore distance racing into something manageable for most weekend warriors. Give it a go.
