If you've got an inspection port in the hull that far forward, why not just mount it to the port hole cover? Of course, you wouldn't be able to sit on it, but you could switch with a flat port hole cover when you don't need the compas...
I never thought about that, but I think I would have to use bigger inspection port for those compasses. I have 2 compasses mounted on the each side of the boat – that is how I bought it.
I rarely use those I got GPS. Since they were installed already I just kept them that way.
