I am looking at a 31 AC, probably within a year or so. I know there aren't a lot of 31s racing around here for the most part- mostly 28rs- but I want something a little more cruiser friendly for taking summer jaunts around the great lakes. I am interested (as is the wifey) in racing though. I take it if I racee against 28s then scoring goes according to DPN. I looked it up and have a question- when the rating says M+J then I take it that means no spin or reacher, right? If I raced with either then I would need to take a modification hit, right? Or if I did run a spin, etc, then would I take the 31OD rating? New to tris, and wondering. Thanks

F-28 Tri Stock M&J F-28 66.8 70.6 68.5 67.2 63.9
F-28R Tri All Sails F-28R 64.7 67.8 66.5 64.7 61.3
F-31 Tri Stock M&J F-31 65.7 72.0 67.4 66.1 66.2
F-31R Tri O.D. All Sails F-31R 61.9 65.4 63.8 62.5 59.9

Just calc the hit taking 31 M+J with spin and comes out to 63.07

Only if you are racing your trimaran against beach cats will you be using the Portsmouth numbers.

When the trimarans race together, they use PHRF numbers. Trey Ritter is the person who will assign you yours. Go to the CTOA website for information

Trey's personal page is here, but I don't think he keeps it up

here's your class assn site

This sig would be something witty, but the censors are against that.

There are quite a few F31R's on the Great Lakes, I would guess at least 10, but not all racers. Some F31 ultimate cruisers, ect. As to comparing the 31 to the 28 the 31 will handle a family better, especially a young family with room to grow. If you want to race I wouldn't go for the F28 aft cabin boat.

There is a large difference between the R and OD config on the 31. Larger Main, larger jib, canting rig, different boards, faired ama's. The F/C31R rates -30, while the C31R1D rates -60's.

would complement your F18HT well, although I'm not sure which one you will sail more.

F31R Triceratops (weekend boat)
F18HT USA-16 (weekday boat)

Well, I wonder if the HT will sit on the tramp nicely on the 31 <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
