I have just bought a Taipan 4.9 whihc has a couple of challenges and also some questions. My aft beam only has hold bolts on the outboard side not the inboard side (See attach picture). Secondly my front beam has an inboard bolt that is lose and will not tighten, can someone explain to me how the front beam is tied to the two pods. Thanks in advance. kingcowie

Picture doesn't seem to have uploaded completely.

Sounds like the forward beam bolt is threaded, if so, it will need to be replaced. Are you sure the nut underneath the deck isn't spinning?

If you can't tighten the bolt, it's threaded, or nut is missing. Just try to remove all the bolts and inspect anyway. The boat looks well used so it would be a good idea to pull everything apart to inspect and/or replace anyway.

In the photo, I think you'll find a bolt head if you stick a screw driver down that hole in the beam.

Try to find the nuts. Or stick a camera in the hull to take a photo with flash on. Or try to take the beam end cap off and shine a touch into the beam to see the bolt head.

The inboard bolts on the rear beam are probably there--they are Allen heads that seat on the bottom of the beam. Look through the hole with a flashlight and you will see. Photo attached of the rear beam being attached with an Allen wrench sunk into the hole tightening the bolt.

Hi All

A friend of mine had the same problem when he overtightened his beam bolts, in the end we removed the main beam and put in stainless helicoils to save having to remove the plates.

Regards
