Hi - just bought a Mozzie (first one), and trying to get insurance. Called Club Marine and they said they'd never heard of the make so I'd need a survey - am I just answering their questions wrong? Any tips on who you use for insurance would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Alex,

I too have only recently joined the Mozzie Fleet.

I used these guys www.tudorinsurance.com.au/ for insurance, having been recommended to them by a few guys at my club.

They knew what my boat was and were quite helpful . Haven't had to claim so I can't recommend either way.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Hi Alex
Welcome aboard.
I use NRMA for my insurance and they seemed to have an idea of what a mossie was. I also found their price pretty reasonable.
Where abouts you going to be sailing at?
Whats the sail number of the boat?
You need any hand you are in the right forum for it.
Cheers
William

my boats are insured with GIO. but when i first started to get insurance on my first mossie 1132,most insurance companys wanted to have the boat assessed by a boat builder as the boat was built over 10 years ago. GIO didnt require this.

Hi Alex,

I use CGU, have found price OK, though they don't know anything about sail boats, but that is not neccesarily a bad thing <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. So looks like plenty to choose from <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />.

Alex,

Welcome to the discussion group. I also insure through Tudor Insurance and found them to be quite good. When my Mozzie broke up in the 2004 state titles they wrote it off and paid up the full amount minus the small excess. Since they didn't want the wreck and neither did the boat builder I was able to pay the boat builder to have it repaired.

Just some words of wisdom as provided by the Insurance assessor; Insure the Mozzie for replacement value. The premuim won't be much different than if you under insure. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
The insurance forms will ask for value of hulls/platform, mast/rigging/sails and from memory trailer as well. Check out the Mosquito website for purchase price value.

Happy racing.

Regards,

Peter

p.s. Where did you purchase your new Mozzie, sail No., condition, age of sails, timber or composite ???

Ben,

Great news for the Sydney fleet. It's great to have local competition. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> What are your plans when you sell 1547 ?? Are you breeding Mozzies in your garage ? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Regards,

Peter

I'm also with GIO. They wouldn't know what a Mozzie is but don't care. They just ask a lot of questions to get an idea of what it's like and what it's worth. They also specifically cover racing - if you ask for it. It can all be done over the phone (131010).

All,

Just to add my "two bob's worth"....for what it is worth.

All our boats are with CGU, and have no problem with them at all, that includes claims.

They are happy to have "racing Risk" included at very little cost.

In the end, guess it is personal choice and past experiences.

Either way...these are still a great boat to sail.

David

after all my nice words about GIO, they would not insure the new boat 1808, as it is a home built boat. looks like i will have to try cgu and tudor as i have spoken to club marine and found them to be twice the price as i was paying for the previous boat with gio.

I'm going to try Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency, I found their name looking through the Vic Yachting Website, the quote seemed reasonable, and its for a homebuild. The office is in Brighton (Melbourne).
