Well, we trashed the mast for my unirigged 474 Freestyle.

It's been a great boat for single-hand-goof-off cat sailing.

The very soft mast always worried me, now I know why.

Anyone know where I might get a suitable replacement at a reasonalbe cost.

Not many options for a land-locked Utah cat sailor.

Any recommnedations???

Tom,

I suggest that you saw off a few 1/2" cross sectional pieces to shop around with. Mail them to a few yacht suplus places and ask them if they have a similar extrusion. If you can find the same extrusion, then your base will fit into it.

I thoght that the Freestyle looked a lot like a Supercat. Even had the same rudder stocks, didn't it? Maybe Aquarius knows something about where to get parts for it. Aquarius SuperCat

Doesn't you boat look just like This SuperCat 15?

If any Hobie mast section would work for your boat let me know. I have a stack of 16 masts, one 14 mast one 18 mast, an old school aussie 18 mast that broke at the base, but the rest of the extrusion is OK. I sell a good 16 mast for around $100. I'll be driving to TX to deliver an aclass with the Surf City rig the first part of June and would be happy to meet you somehwere if it works out.

So, two 474s are in trouble this year. Two weeks ago I trashed one hull of my Freestyle 474. I enjoyed sailing with a spinnaker for two seasons but it seems it is gone now. The damage to the hull is too extensive to save the boat. If you still looking for a mast replacement or other components email me.

Hi Tom,

I'm up at Bear Lake as we speak--drove by and saw your Stilletto moored.

Definitely get a Hobie 16 or Prindle mast and just transfer your hardware over. I'm sure you, of all people, could make it work. Today I saw a couple of masts "available"...a Prindle and a G-cat abandoned in a field just of the road between Fish Haven and St. Charles.

BTW, Freestlye mast wasn't designed for double or triple trapping. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Eric:

Good hearing from you.

Funny you hsould bring up double of triple trapping.

You must have heard how "we" trashed the mast....

Yep, my knot head son who had four people on it in a blow and wanted to see how fast and hard the boat could be pushed.

Well, now it is evident.

I've gotta go to Cal on Thursday but will be at my Bear Lake place Saturday through Monday.

Let's goof off.

i recently found a 474 in a rural part of washington for 350$ i think. the rudders were broken so i salvaged some parts from an old super cat 17 we had that sunk a couple years ago. i havent hered to many good things about the masts unfortunatly. its an awsome boat to sail alone but its impossible to set up alone. im thinking about changing the base plate with the old superr cat base plat and putting that mast on to hold another trap and a jib possibly, any thoughts?
