I think in this case we need to name the whole crews.

John Casey/ Christa van Helden 13th overall in a 59 boat fleet after 6 races. Sailing nacra infusion F18

Trey Brown/ Hugo Dj Le Breton are 28th in the same fleet sailing a nacra Inter-20 One-design.

Christa is a very capable sailor. If she sticks to it (very likely) she will be able to get very far in international sailing. I think she is 23 now so she has got the time to grow. I teamed up with her for one event in the past and let me put it this way : I will decide to do the Round Texel within a heartbeat if she'll team up with me. Even if that means packing the boat up and driving over on friday night after work and sleeping in the bloody car.

And you guys all know how much I dislike doing the round Texel.

I think it is great to see a woman do so well in this sport, we have too few of them.

This will be a very enjoyable Round Texel for JC, he sure knows how to pick (winning) crews !

Texel Dutch Open results :

http://rotdominoserver.ti.mon3aan.nl/IIS/finishlists/tdo2007/index.htm#open_ii

Notice how all top 10 places are taking by F18 boats ?

With 11th the M20 GTI (sloop rig)
and 12th the 16 foot Spitfire
with 13th the F18 sailed by Casey/van helden

But he is not the only one having trouble with 16 foot boats.

Our mr. Trey Brown and Hugo Le Breton on the Inter-20 OD (US rig) were beaten in race 3 by team Ruesink/van der Haas sailing a Blade F16; actually the only race the Blades participating in.

Ouch !

For the rest of the races the two Blades score a series of DNS's, reason unknown. Trey did surely better there !

And the Volvo Extreme 20, sailed by Herbert Dercksen and Aaron Mcintosh ?

Well they scored : (60.0 DNC) 18.0 6.0 60.0(DNC) 16.0 6.0

When removing the DNC's an average of 11.5 or 12th spot.

All very interesting !

Wind direction and strength?
Is it a direct upwind leg or a reach after VC mark?

Finally John Casey and Christa van Helden (F18) are on the score board !

At the VC-bouy they were 44th on elapsed time, 15 min and 14 sec behind the first boat around this marker (Normal M20). They (Casey/Helden) rounded the marker at 1 hour 13 min and 15 sec.

A 16 foot Spitfire (Sproat/Burke) is hunting them down however. As they are tracking Casey/Helden by a mere 28 seconds. On corrected time the Spitfire is in front of them. Ohhh, I just love 16 foot spinnaker boats ! But I bet somebody else we know doesn't.

Casey/Helden got some catching up to do. And we all know they can !

On corrected time they are 37th overall and 12 min and 21 seconds behind the leaders on corrected them. These are ofcourse fellow F18 sailors Bundock and Ashby.

Trey Brown and mr Lebreton are not yet on the listings.

Here are the windspeeds and wind directions :

Secondly Ijmuiden end of pier

I would say this is exactly the conditions that the M20's want. Large stretches of pure upwind and downwind work in something like 5-8 knots sustained with gusts to about 10 knots max. Only small reaching legs this race !

Thanks for the info Wouter. I'm watching the America's Cup on TV right now, Swiss just rounded A mark first and they are now ahead on the first run. In the far background I saw what looked like a 60' trimaran blasting across the spectator fleet upwind of A mark. Anyone know who that was?

Wouter, do you know why there were so many DNF's in that triangle race, (the 3rd one I think)? Too much wind or too little to finish in time?

Casey/van Helden are slowly moving up :

In my last posting they were 44th / 37th (elapsed/corrected)

Now they are 35th/24th

And on elasped time they are 31 min 22 sec behind the race leaders = M20 GTI

On corrected time they are 15 min 52 sec behind the scoreboard leaders = Tiger F18

This was after roughly 2 hours of sailing.

Just a little more guy-'n-gal !

A top 20 spot is within reach.

I haven't seen Trey Brown and mr. LeBreton in the scoring yet.

One bouy race at Texel Dutch Open saw dying winds and a large portion of the fleet couldn't make the cut-off time. At least that is what I was told.

I'll bet JC is pissed (in a good way), sawing the main, not talking much and breathing hard. Fun to watch him pick the next boat to pass - you'd think it would be the one right in front of him, but usually it is three boats ahead. The one right in front of him, he's already passed in his head.

I think the wind is dying. No news for almost an hour now and still no-one over the finishline after more then 3 hours of sailing. This is no record run.
