Posts: 30 Lake Norman, NC | This is slightly off-topic, but most of us do some trailering, so we can relate. I got these pics and description from a friend on another board who was documenting his neighbor's "ingenuity"! He had the air pressure in the rear tires to about 160psi. He added some heavy-duty chain for extra support on the tailgate (note that he used the "Heavy-Duty 'S' hooks to attach the chain) He also paid-up for some BIG 5/16 sheetmetal screws to attach the frame to the tailgate. Yeah, he knows it's overkill, but he didn't want the possibility of having an accident. Much of his time was spent on his front porch whittling down that MASSIVE 4x4 board to fit precisely into the ball mount receiver. Also note that he used a 14" piece of 1x4 to help distribute the load more evenly--"YOU CAN"T BE TOO SAFE, YOU KNOW!!". " It cost a little more, but you just can't be too safe when pulling a trailer of this magnitude !!". Who wants to take bets as to how far this rig would get this guy? Think the reults of which would remove him from the gene pool which is a requirement to win a Darwin Award?

Clayton Just so. While he appears to have given some thought (I use the term loosely) to "holding things up," there doesn't appear to be anything holding the tailgate down. Hit the brakes or take a slight grade, and the gate looks like it would fold up - the steel frame of the goose hitch that he's bolted on was not designed to take a "folding" load. For far less than the insurance claim this guy will be filing (and probably denied), he could have bought an old pick-up, put good shocks on, and been worry-free. Hope nobody gets hurt.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | He seems to be on a slight grade and I offer the suggestion that the reason he is parked right there is that there was not enough weight up front to keep the front wheels on the ground while trying to accelerate.
