Posts: 493 Minnesota | The band I'm in has made an instrumental song that we imagine captures the spiritual feeling of sailing. Does it ? Go to this place and see what you think: http://www.isound.com/structured_noise

Posts: 902 Norman,OK | Ummm.... I would say work on that just a little more and maybe you can get the idea.
There are three types of sailing songs to me
1. Hardcore- for those wild downwind runs and racing 2. Cruising- something softer and fun 3. Deadwind- just something to laugh at while swimming
At the current state of evolution your song fits into none of those, but Bravo, I can't play any music so maybe it doesn't matter what I say.

Posts: 182 Coopersburg, PA | Very cool song....i'd also say not a bad start at all.. but where are the drums, they are the heartbeat of the band. I jam with my friends sometimes, and without a drummer its sounds good, but with a drummer, it sounds much better. The acoustic rhythm in the background is nice, but just a bit off beat at times, but no ones perfect. Overall i give it an 8 out of 10 for a cool sailing tune.

Actually, this recording was put together on the first attempt at making this a song. It started as an experiment with a droning surf sound, and within 30 minutes we had recorded this song. I thought it worked as a song, but we needed to work it over, arrange it more, and polish it.
"Nope, its done." said another band member. He said to do more to it would ruin the spontanatity of it. He absolutely refused to do any more with it. So, it sat in his computer for 6 months, destined to die there. I got him to cut an mp3 of it for me, (as a rescue attempt.)
When I listened to it, it had a hesitant quality to it that gives it a certain charm. You'd expect that, considering we didn't quite know where it was going on this song's first attempt. But, it is definitely an acquired taste. Sorta spacey ethereal,-a sailing feeling!
I put it on the internet hoping someone would acquire a taste for it. Better this than an anonymous death.
