How many cat sailors are there worldwide?

I remember reading on this or on another forum that it was approx 25%. If this is correct where did this figure come from and can it be verified?

This is quite urgent so if anyone can help I would be forever grateful

This includes a reference to the International Tornado Association's submission to the ISAF on Olympic equipment that cites the 25% figure.

I would start by contacting the 4 largest manufactures to find out how many boats they have sold since 1975. I don't know if the figures are published, but if you have a good reason and promise not to release the numbers of the individual manufactures they might help you.

Out of curiosity, who would the four largest be? Hobie, Nacra sure. After that? Bimare? AHPC?

Yeah, right. After that, he can call the Iranians and the N. Koreans and ask them to please stop their nuclear programs. When he's done with that, he can forge a lasting peace in the Middle East.

Nobody gives out production numbers. To anybody. For any reason. Period.

Thanks for the input so far.

The ITA claim 1 in 4 sailors is a multihull racer how did they come to this figure? Its a figure stated in their proposal and is used to justify the inclusion of 2 cats in 2012. If anyone doesn't want to post the response please PM me as it would be very useful figures to have when we meet the RYA on Oct 8th

They must think it is “better to be perceived as a big fish in a big ocean, than to reveal the numbers and expose the fact that they are actually a minnow in a mason jar”... when viewed relative to the entire marine manufacturing community.
