Looks like the Nauteek SC200 is the current gold standard for small boat performance training & race tactics. It seems to be more advanced in features than the Velocitek at the moment. Automode switching on upwind/downwind legs; Start line distance; True Upwind Direction plotting; Backlighting; Tacking/Gybing performance with target speed plots; Real VMG and/or VTD display. Only one waypoint can be input right now, but they promise multiple imputs Q1 of '08 as a firmware upgrade. Cost Sucks and support is a big question since developers are non-English speaking (France).

Nauteek SC200

Looks like a nice unit if you could afford it. At about $700 it is rather pricey. Unfortunately the Formula 18s are not allowed to use such a device while racing. The new rules do not allow GPS devices on the boats. Could be good for practicing though. I do use a Velocitek for practice...when I remember to put it on the boat.

Later,
Dan

I mount mine on swivelling bracket on top of spin pole , as I have no jib my rotation spanner points out the front of the boat , I connect the swivelling bracket to the rotation spanner with two crossed lines , when I tack the boat and mast rotates it also rotates my velocitek to face new tack .

I origionally firmly fixed it to the pole orientated across the boat , but couldn't see the screen when beating and far forward on hull , moving the bracket further forward made it catch up in spin halyard/tack line , current system is dogs bollocks and worked on first attempt !!! all I need now is a carbon MK 11

I have had mine mounted on the boom. I use it mostly on one tack. If I want to see it on both tacks I have my crew just slide it over. Problem is that I am reading it upside-down on one side.

I was talking to an A-Cat sailing friend of mine one day when I saw that he had the same Velocitek. He wanted to be able to read it on each tack from the wire or where ever. I mentioned a system that I drew up to have the unit tack when I did. It is mounted on the boom with a swivel. Uses bungee and line to pull while attached to the opposite sides of a rotating mast. The next time I saw him going out sailing, maybe a day or two, he had the system rigged up and it worked great! I have not made mine yet, but I will soon.

Mounted mine on a prod coming off the front beam on my A cat. It's on a swivel and rotates counter to the mast.

It's great for up wind in light air or breeze on the wire.

Down wind... wild thing the mount is a bust. the velocotek is hidden behind the mast when you are sitting on the tramp. In big breeze, its still slightly hidden and you don't want to loose concentration looking for it or you will die!

Nest move is to either the boom (one tack only) or the rotation arm with a swivel.

The link to the SoCal dealer I provided in the original post has it listed at $569 USD....still pricey but not $700.

Thanks Nauteek,

That's good to hear about the support.

Is there a userguide with full descriptions of the features we can access?

P.S., you should contact Rick White who runs this website to work with him about advertising your products here. He also has a web-store for selling products.

Hi guys,

Although I quit the catamarans racing scene some time ago, I used to sail and race very actively in Europe on beachcats. I move to the USA about 10 years ago now...and I have decided to represent Nauteek products in the US. I race actively on sportboats and the SC200 is definitely what I was looking for as a racer, for practice sail or just for fun and see how fast I sail!
For support and questions, feel free to contact me via the website at www.sailingsportboats.com
I have used the Nauteek SC200 for just over a month but really like the features and simplicity of use.
Yes, it is more expensive than other units out there (US$569), but you also get much more for your money and I can guarantee that it is a much higher quality tactical GPS than any other ones on the market.

Happy sailing and good holidays to all,

Cheers,
Jerome
