In an effort to "spread the F-16 gospel", it would be good to know what sailing/sports magazines are read and likely to print/carry materials about us and our events. Please post the name and a link to their website if you got any.
Without creating expectations, if you have concrete ideas/leads for feature stuff, let me know.
We need to do more marketing for our class, boats and events. I have volunteered for the PR committee, but there is still room for others to voice their interest. Tasks will be to get/write reports for sending to media (local press and sailing/sports media) and our website, gathering photos for our photoalbum, getting/writing feature stuff and creating activity on the forum.
In Belgium we have a monthly magazine called "Varen" (sailing). Website of this magazine is www.varen.be. It features both yachting and catamaran sailing, with more about yachting than catamarans though.
After the Global Challenge Gill and I wrote a text and e-mailed it to a journalist of this magazine, together with some pictures. They included it in their next issue. Attached the page.
We intend to race at Eurocat Carnac (France) next year and after this event we will again send in an article with pictures about the F16's and how they were doing at this event.
I also want to help out with the pr of the class and I can help out with the Dutch and French part of the publicity.
Maybe we could make a press button on the F16 website. We can make an inventory of all F16 related news ever published and group it on the website, together with some high res action pictures that could be used by journalists. This way they have some help when writing about F16?

Sailing World is the best US rag for racers but it is heavily weighted towards mono hulls (as is the industry). Though, they do rate multihulls in their boat of the year competition.

Belgium - Varen USA - Sailing World USA - Catamaran Sailor (preaching to our own) UK/World - Seahorse (this is kind of a very serious racers magazine and I dont think we will hit much of our target audience there. But there is no harm in sending in relevant materials) UK - Yachts and yachting Web/World - thedailysail.com
Is that all there is? What about Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, south americas, asia, South Africa, France, Italy??
Kathleen, thanks for offering to help! I'll PM you right away.
Australian sailing magazine. Email subscriptions@yaffa.com.au they are for all sailing. They have done a lot on F18 ,hobie16 worlds and did a write up on F16 a while ago.
In the past I have written a full article for cats and dinghies (on their request) with high res pictures only to see nothing appear in the magazine. Never even heard a reason why they dropped it. Still the guy who contacted me is a very deeply involved with Hobie 16's and the magazine was at that time owned by the Nacra dealors, so maybe it wasn't so much a surprise as the F16's are a direct competition to both. I think things have changed a little since then. I think this all happened in autumn 2004. I can check if you guys wants.
Zeilen is mainly focussed on yachts and monohulls but they do articles on small boats once in a while. For some reason I don't think they are "against multi's", they are mostly geared towards cruising and multi's don't do much of that. I must say that they do once in a while come up with a totally unexpected article about some small boat or small builder. I would give them a try also.
Pretty much I feel that the best way to have an article in either mag is to supply a demo boat (with skipper) to their man and have him sail it on the lake of IJsselmeer one day. I seem to recall our chairman has several demo's available at this time, so ....
If we are really smart then we contact Diana Boogaards ; http://www.diabo.nl/ She writes most of this stuff anyway and she is deeply involved with cat sailing herself. Seh actually searched us out for her new book on catsailing as she felt the F16's had potential for a great future. She is a full time sailing journalist and she has a very good network of contacts I'm sure. So contacting her should be very high on any PR committees list. Even if only to ask for advice on how to best approach the matter or PR. Lovely lady as well, very kind mannered, but that is another topic.

From one who thinks Seahorse is absolutely the best, alternative rag out there. Check their demographics http://seahorsemagazine.com/about.php I don't think any news of this burgeoning class will fall on deaf ears here.
Hi Rolf This is last seasons F16 article published in "Yachts & Yachtings 2006-07 Racing Classes Guide" For some reason I decided to keep it I'm sure John Alani was the author. There was also a photo but this was unfortunately on the previous page.
