I've got this pic (http://www.catsailor.com/bb_files/90827-beachlaunchposition.jpg) that I'm pretty sure is a modification of the Bim 18HT's rudders to allow them to kick up. Anyone know who might have posted the pic? Or want to comment on methods to modify these blades? Bill again? Thanks!

Dave,
I modified my old HT rudders based on that set up. Very easy to do for the most part and works well. I believe captaincardiac can provide pics since it is only his boat now. if he doesn't chime in I can desccribe it and tell you what you need to do.

I'm pretty sure that's my old boat in the pic. We started with this setup, but over time, as the line seated into the cleat, it would develop weatherhelm as the rudder raked back 1/8" or so. Around the bouys it was acceptable to just reach back and give it a tug, but this boat was being prepped for for the Worrell 1000. We couldn't live with it on a distance race... We ended up replacing the entire rudder system with the Dotan rudder setup. It worked well for the Tybee 500 that was held instead that year.

Dave, I'm actually finishing a 2:1 mod for the rudders today. I ran out of rivets. I'm sure bimare had something in mind when they developed these rudders, i just don't know what it was. Thankfully, like most things, there is a workaround. I'll need to send you some pics so just contact me on the private side and I'll walk you through it.

You guys are awesome! This is such a blast, even if I can't sail it, at least I can fuss with it!
