Australia day regatta's are being held at Yarrawonga and Torquay S.C who is going were. Both are good events. For me it might come down to weather forecast, if windy head inland if light head to the sea.

Theres also a Regatta at Rivoli Bay just over the border in South Australia, the place is actually called Southend. Rivoli Bay is sort of regarded part of the Western Region in Vic.

Greetings All,

At this stage, my family is planning to go to Yarrawonga for the Oz day regatta. It'll be good to give the boys a sail on the Mozzie again. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I think the Vic states might be the first chance I get to put the boat into Victorian waters. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Looking forward to seeing all those going to Yarrawonga.

Hi Peter

Accommodation suggestions are in the Torquay SC Notice of Race.

The NoR is in the VMCA calendar (Torquay AND Yarrawonga).

I'll try and get some tonight, I only have where and when at the moment, see what I can find.

I'm getting a flyer emailed to me shortly and will post it when it arrives.

Regards

I haven't recieved the flyer email, and can't get the guy back on the phone, must be a work number.

I can tell you that, the Rivoli Bay Regatta is on the 25th and 26th January, I believe its called the Seafood Regatta, its at Southend, SA.

If the flyer comes in the next couple of hours I'll put it up, but I used the YachtingSA directory and rang the number off there.

Regards

Robert,
I made the same mistake last year. I thought it was going to be too rough at Torquay and went to Yarrawonga (while Peter C. went to Torquay and had a great weekend).

This time I made the right decision, went to Torquay and had a really good weekend. They didn't run the coaster on Saturday because there wasn't enough wind - we would never have made it. There was also the threat of strong winds later but it didn't get that radical.

We had two races on Saturday, in an offshore wind starting light and flukey and getting more pressure later until there was enough in the gusts to make Peter Nikitin nosedive under spinnaker. Luckily for me I couldn't get my spinnaker from Lindsay in time for the weekend, because the combination of courses and winds never worked out right for the spinnaker.

On Sunday there was an onshore wind and Torquay SC ran a mini-coaster from Torquay to Barwon Heads and back. Once again it worked out perfect for a Mozzie without a spinnaker with a beam reach out and almost but not quite to windward coming back. We were just footing off slightly all the way, flat out on trap and de-powering. What a blast!

After lunch we had two more triangle-windward-leeward races in more gusty and shifty winds. Once again the spinnaker didn't help Peter much, there being only one downwind leg and that was very gusty.

It was a good weekend for Mosquitoes so it's a shame only Peter and myself were there to enjoy it. Torquay SC ran a good series and laid on a really nice meal on Saturday night (so the trailer-park campers didn't have to go anywhere). Gary Maskiell was there on his Blade and looking fast (until he knocked the sail out of the mast track in the second to last race which put him out of the results). Overall results for the Mosquitoes, 1st and 4th. Where was everyone else?

Now I'm looking forward to getting the spinnaker back on for the next regatta at Loch Sport followed by Eden (Twofold Bay). Should be good.

4 mosquitoes at Yarrawonga Andrew Neeson, Trever Bland and crew (sorry didn't get here name) Colin McEwan and my self, both of Collins sons crewed on mosquitoes in the first race on Sunday, picking up a first (Colin and Campbell)and a second (Robert and Jack)in that race.
all had a good time with a different winner in the mosquitoes each time 4 different boats four different hull shapes. biggest problem was the weed in the pond. didn't make the last race so i don't know the final results but still a good weekend.

I was looking at the Torquay regatta but decided to stay in SA and race at Adelaide Sailing Club, 7 Mozzies including Philip Pearce sailing Mk1, good competition and 14 hours less driving. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
We sailed 3 Trapezoids while the dinghys orbitted around on an inner course using a combination of our marks and their own, made for some congested mark roundings.
The wind started light and slowly built to trapezing conditions for the last lap. Results below
http://www.adelaidesailingclub.com.au/ASC0708/Results/Race21.html
Only a Nacra 5.8 turned up besides the 7 Mozzys and the one F14 didn't rig up for some reason, a shame as I was looking forward to racing against a spinnaker boat on a trapezoid course.

Tim,

10 Mozzies raced at Somers Y.C. in the Alan Sanders Memorial Cup, Commodores Cup and veterans trophy. 48 Somers yachts competed in a single division event against their yardstick and individual handicap. Matt Stone (1705) won yardstick overall with Jeremy Pearse (1812) 3rd overall. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> In the veterans catamaran trophy Jeremy Pearse won with Brian and Adam Gristwood 3rd. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Results for the regatta are here.

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~somersyc/results/alansanders08/series.htm

Racing was conducted over the 3 days in predominantly light winds however racing on Sunday afternoon was cancelled with consistent wind at 27 knots and gusts above 30 knots. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Two short back to back races were conducted on Monday morning to complete the scheduled number of races. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I like the scaling in the Somers results, it would be good to see more of that in our sport, makes sense when dinghys are competing with cats.

Haven't seen Lasers do that well on handicap before and a 420 winning on handicap in light wind is not what I would expect. Must be some good dinghy sailors at Somers. Matt did well.

Hi Guy's

I stayed in Torquay and but was sailing in Geelong at Scanda Week in the trailable Nationals ( yes 2nd Nationals this year, my wife wants to know what happened to retiring from sailing). I was hoping to get to the Torquay Y.C club to catch up but when on a boozer cruiser you sail and you party then you sail and you party then you sail and you party <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />except when the winds are light you open the on board esky and party until the wind comes up!

Just to fill you in on the last race at Yarrawonga, I sailed sloop with Jack as crew. Thought I wasn't going to make the start as one of the centreboards got stuck. Managed to get the board up and bolt to the start line was a bit late for the start but managed to make it to 3rd around the first mark. I overtook the two taipans on the first reach and managed to lead the race until the last triangle when the 1st taipan overtook me and I followed him to the finish < minute behind. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

As far as the regatta goes, I was out of contention before I started. I couldn't make the first race due to family problems and had to carry a DNS with no dropped races <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> for the regatta, so had no hope of ever winning or getting a place in it. It was good to get the boys out on the Mozzie again though. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Thanks to Rob who took one of the boys out for a race.

Andrew's thinking of renaming his boat the weed catcher. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
