In another thread Robi volunteered to be a measurer. I am wondering how to go about it to become an official F16 measurer? The class is spread to all remote corners of the planet, so how de we get measurers trained and certified in all these places? I am asking becouse I would surely want to become a measurer to grow the class here in Norway.

At present the Official Measurer for the class is Piet Saarberg. This is mainly to do with his existing position as an ISAF measurer and a measurer for the A Class.

Simon Longstaff has volunteered to be a class measurer in the UK, he is a suitable candidate in light of his position as SCHRS Chairman. He and Piet have had some correspondence on the matter and, so far as I know, Simon will be acting as Measurer at the 2008 GC in Mumbles and, with some guidance from Piet, will be measuring UK F16s this year prior to the season start.

If you (or anyone else) want to volunteer for measuring F16s, then I would suggest an initial chat with Piet Saarberg would be the way to go. If you need his contact details I'll PM them to you.

Which locations need measurers?

Unless there is already some I don't know about, Australia could do with a couple, 1 on the east coast(Sydney) and 1 or 2 between Victoria and South Aust. Brisbane doesn't have enough boats yet to require one here (I'm working on it, plenty of ppl are asking questions.), we/I can be measured at the first national titles unless there is a surge.

I think any member of the F16 class could be suitable whether they have experience or not, they are not hard rules and the guidance notes should be written to avoid confusion. Other/previous measurers can always offer advice when needed.

OT - How's the Aust. Association coming along?

From this summer and onwards, I would like to become a measurer. We need one if we are to make the class grow.

I would like Piets contact info so I can have a chat with him about how to go about it. Seems like others are interested as well, so it would probably be a good move to publish some information on it.

Isn't any measurer an F16 measurer?
Don't you have to check on a national level who is measuring and learn/get officialised by them?

Gill

Gill,

Any National Authority recognised measurer can measure an F16. Any class can also appoint it's own measurers. These measurers though will only be able to measure F16s as they have no standing with the National Authority or ISAF.

If the F16 class goes the ISAF route then we will have to look again at who is entitled to measure our boats.

Last year I had exactly the same question on this forum, see
http://www.catsailor.com/forums/showflat...true#Post112707
I was told that the Class Authorities are working on this point.
Are there any official news in that topic, when I can read now that almost everybody could become a F16 class measurer?

I offered the GC my services last year as I wanted to put something back into the class. I am not an ISAF measurer and so cannot measure any other boats.

As we grow we will need more people willing to do all sorts of things for the class.

One drawback of being a measurer is you have to set someone else to measure your boat.

Everyone who is appointed can be a measurer.
