Posts: 216 Lakewood, Colorado | Calling All Hobie 18 Sailors: Hobie Midwinters East will be in Panama City, FL on March 28-30th 2008. We now have the NOR and Entry form available for download on the class associations web site. http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/?Page=3017 There will be the option to register online later this week, hopefully. For those of you who have not joined the class for the 2008 season you can do so at https://www.hcanamembers.com/. Camping can be done here http://www.floridastateparks.org/standrews/default.cfm its about a 10 min drive to where we will be sailing. Just checked, St Andrews is all booked up for that weekend Plenty of hotel rooms available though! As always if there is anything I can do please let me know! _________________ Brad Stephens Sunjammers Watersports Authorized Hobie Dealer brad@sunjammers.com 866-sun-jamm www.sunjammers.com Hobie Class division 15 Chair Brad, We had a great time last year and would love to come down and race with your guys again. Sure would be nice to have a FLEET of EIGHTEENS there this year. . Maybe we can get a few more boats to "make the trip". If I can drive all the way down there from COLORADO, surely we can find four more 18's and have a fleet. So Come on all you Hobie 18 Sailors how about it, is there any interest in having a fleet of 18's at the Midwinters this year. Last year there were only 2. Surely there must be a few more 18 sailors that are up for an early season of Fleet racing in sunny Florida. Chime in here and lets see how many boats we can get together for this event. Stephen Hobie 18

Posts: 216 Lakewood, Colorado | How about it Hobie 18 owners/sailors, is anyone else going to Mid Winters East in Panama City and planning on sailing a Hobie 18? It is a great venue, and Brad and the Sungammers group put on a gret event. Lets get together a Fleet of 18's this year and have some fun. Sound off here, lets see who else might be coming to race. Stephen H-18

Posts: 975 South Louisiana, USA | Why do you post a NOR for Hobies only on a News for all small cats website? Is there not a Hobie class website? Cut him some slack. Not every Hobie sailor hangs out at the Hobie Class Association site. I know I never did. Maybe he's trying to get others that are not quite so enthusiastic about racing to get out and race/hang out with others. Sure its not super duper F18 but DANG!!!!! Clayton | | | Re: Calling all Hobie 18 Sailors

Unregistered | Correct, although to your original point I'm not personally offended by someone here trying to encourage other catsailors to go racing, class-restricted or not. And making those Hobie folks feel at home on the forum can only be a good thing - more opportunity for them to realize there's a whole other world out here . | | | Re: Calling all Hobie 18 Sailors

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Hi Dave,
I understand your point. However, perhaps it's not the time and place to rehash that argument.
Consider the other hand here ...
I really applaud the initiative!
What has been missing for many a year are class leaders.
It's one thing for the regatta chair to beat the drum to come to the event.
It's REALLY encouraging to hear a class leader... beat the drum and LEAD by example PLUS do the PR by spreading the word!
For example, Ben Moon succesfully created an A class Midwinters in St Petersburg. He did a good job with emails to get people to go south. ... He could have (and probably should have cross posted on cat sailor)... Why... If you want people to consider your class... its a combination of the boat and the events they compete in. Bob Hodges does a good job of getting the word out to the general community.
You never know who is sitting on the fence and can be nudged into the class by the activity.
You have stepped up to promote Spring Fever on the A cat list... Great Start... Why stop there!?
If readers don't want to read about the A class at Spring fever... they just don't open the thread..
You can find a million excuses to NOT travel...(see N20 thread) A key to trumping those excuses is class leadershp
I applaud those people stepping forward and leading!
Mark

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Dave... how does that differ from promoting the Performance Nationals on this site .... (You must have a Performance made boat to play) ... Hell... they nixed the notion of any Performance made Prindle 19's showing up..
The tit for tat factory BS fought by proxy through their respective class associations will crush the F18 class in the end.
But... I can't see nailing a sailor for promoting his class at an event as a positve step towards any solution to our never ending civil war.

Posts: 216 Lakewood, Colorado | Harry,
Keep talking it up to any of the other H-18 guys you can think of, we are definitely gonna have a fleet, so far, two or three from Florida, two from Tennessee, one from Colorado, and one from Texas. Talk to old George, stack em up, and come on down. The more the merrier, and a good time will be had by all.
Does Kenny Hilk already have a full trailer for this event ?
