There will be a registration function on April 25th, watch this forum for location; time will be 6 PM until 9 PM. Registrations will be permitted from 7:30 – 8:30AM at the Islander Resort on April 26th. Repeating portions of the NOR and published addendum, here:
<>Eligibility: All beach type catamarans with operational dagger boards and spinnakers on board and ready for use. Both are required.
<>Skippers meeting 9:00 AM, Saturday April 26th, 2008 at the Islander Resort, beach side, near the water sports office. Start time may be changed during the skippers meeting.
<> Scoring: Timed racing using Portsmouth handicapping by boat type and equipment. If there are 5 boats in a class registering before 9 PM, April 25th, a single extra class may be designated by RC determination, individual boats may Opt Out, decision final, with no recourse permitted. Otherwise, all boats will be included in one open class.
<> Racing Format and Course: The planned warning signal will be at 09:55AM each day used, based upon conditions and format described below. A firm time setup at skippers meeting.
a. Primary and preferred format: A nonstop 100 kilometer race from The Islander
resort to Smather’s Beach, Key West Florida, in one day. This format is dependent on winds and will not be started for forcaste winds at 3 mph or less, but will be run at measured winds over 9.1 mph. All races will use a water start off the pier at the Islander Resort.
b. Secondary format, with light winds, of 3.1 - 9 mph (1) A two leg race stopping at Sombrero Beach, Marathon Fl, and (2) then continuing to Smather’s Beach on the second day.
c. Third and last choice format: Running the primary and preferred format on Sunday April 27th. If there is no wind greater than 3 measured mph either day the race will be abandoned. If abandoned, triangle racing will be considered.
d. A final decision will be made at the Skippers meeting Saturday morning using existing and forecasted buoy winds.
<> Sailing Instructions will be handed out to registrants at registration on April 25th and posted at the Islander Water Sports area by 0800 on 26 April.
<> Boats and trailers may be placed in the trailer parking area of the Islander Resort after the Miami Key Largo race. Up to thirty boats may be assigned storage locations in the water sports area for storage on cat wheels; contact Dennis Green at phone number 305 522 4944, for location. All trailers must be placed in the trailer parking lot. There may be weddings in the resort and all boat activity will be organized to avoid interference. Neither The Islander Resort nor the Islander Watersports, will be responsible for loss or damages to boats or trailers stored on site. In Key West, Murray’s marina on Stock Island (MM 04) has agreed to store boats over night, with security provided by the Hogs Breath Saloon. Storage is at boat owner’s risk. They request that no valuables or pilfer-able equipment be left on boats. (This is Key West) Maps and instructions will be provided.
<> All participants are invited to enjoy beer and finger foods at the Hogs Breath Saloon Saturday(26 April)afternoon and evening after racing, regardless of format. Arm bands will be provided at registration for skippers, crews and ground crew.
<>Awards ceremony, Sunday 2-3PM at the Grand key resort on the Osprey Veranda, including Bubba Q and free HBS beer, food cost $15 per adult, pay as you go, half price for children aged 6 - 12, under six free. Each will get a choice of a burger, hotdog or chicken sandwich plus coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookies, and sodas and bottled water. Prizes will be drawn by ticket at the ceremony. Prizes include: Free stays at participating resorts, a $500 sail discount with Calvert Sails; and more.
