The Space Shuttle is confirmed for an approx 5pm launch on May 31st.

This will be just as we are finishing up racing for the day at the Kelly Park River Regatta. I believe this may be the first, and very well could be the last, time that a regatta is held during and within view of a Shuttle launch.

Kelly Park is so close to Kenndy Space Center that you can see the Shuttle Vehicle Assembly Building from the race course! We plan on sailing out as a group to watch the launch and get a once in a lifetime group picture with the launch in the background.

Hope you can make it!

Brian

Wow dude, thats awesome.

Extra points if you can catch the shuttle launching with a masthead cam during a pitchpole! :P

Pete,
You cannot imagine how bad I want to go to this regatta. However the evil hands of fate have arranged for my in-laws to be visiting the weekend of the super shuttle launch/regatta. I plan to attend the Daytona race in june. I thought it was a lot of fun last year.

That there sounds like a good reason to be at the regatta!

Any cheap accommodations that aren't 100% booked close by? I checked Jetty Park and they are all full up.
Thinking of coming down from Atlanta for the race.

Mike and I were thinking of coming to the regatta also but can't find any place to stay. I think I am staying home and saving about 500 dollars and Mike is taking his A cat to keowee.

Hey, what can you tell me about Keowee? That's week after next, isn't it? What cats usually attend? Can I sail my H16 singlehanded? my crew can't make it.

Mugrace

The keowee regatta is June7-8 and all boats are welcome. There are a bunch of sailors going this weekend (May31-June1)to play and get Jake and his new A cat up to speed.

Here is a link to EMSA for Regattas and news.

Thanks. I guess my main thought is, what kinds of boats and classes will there be? My crew is in Florida and I am in Columbia, SC. I have an H20 and a H16. I would like to just come with the 16 and single hand. Will there be a way to do that?

I'm sure you'll be able to do that, you'll just have to take a PN hit.

Trey sailed his N20 solo at a couple races last year.

Right on the "hit". I'll watch the weather report and might just bring the 20 if it looks light. It is actually easier to sail solo. Tacks better.

On the otherhand, if there were going to be a lot of 16's, I would rather sail with them and possibly find a crew.

Thanks.
