First, thanks for all the help a few months ago selecting a boat. I now own a Hobie Getaway which is perfect for our family. We've taken it out a few times. I added a small outboard motor so now I have to register the boat in NY State.

This question is definitely not a pure cat sailing question but this forum was helpful previously, and I'm confused. Registering requires me to complete a Coast Guard form CG-1270. But I haven't been able to find it on the CG site. I have a bill of sale, but that appears to not be sufficient. The CG-1270 appears to be equivalent to a title for the boat. Does anyone know how I find CG-1270 or know an alternative?

Thanks

Jeff

The form you are looking for is Coast Guard documentation, and that's really only for large boats.

Look here:
http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/boats.pdf

Second row (not documented, which a Getaway wouldn't be):

Either a NYS Title
Certificate or a NYS
Transferable
Registration

Show your bill of sale to the DMV, you probably can't do this online. Call or go to the DMV office.

Registering a boat in NY is a same process as registering a car. Go to DMV, get all necessary forms at a front deck, fill them up, pay a fee, get the registration.
You will need bill of sale and document showing boat's HIN (Hull ID number) - either certificate of origin, out of state title, or NY transferable registration.
