Remove it, bring it to a sail shop, or marine cover shop.

You want to inspect the tramp for other damage as you do NOT want to fall through it raising your mast.

They keep asking the same question! hehe...

actually no, I have never fallen through a tramp... but I do know a guy who did fall through a tramp (that looked good) while stepping his mast. He didn’t hurt himself but someone else said, "Imagine breaking your ankle and legs on the trailer below". That ALWAYS haunted me. I have had several fractures in my ankles from motocross days, and also golf cart injuries (they don’t jump as well as you would think) and get the willies thinking about smashing my ankles on my trailer with a mast over my head.

I read a story of a guy who broke his leg sailing and eventually had to get it amputated from complications.

My current cat has a new tramp because a previous owner took his wife and kids out on it (after it sat in the yard/sun for years). When he tried to lower the centerboards... the family of wasps in the trunk didn’t like it and attacked him. As he floundered about... his family FELL through the UV damaged tramp.... i bet that was a sight to see. He sold the boat that very same day (THANK YOU)

Go sailing.

It's the size of a pencil the skinny way, I have some sail thread and a needle, I have a small peice of tramp material that I can use to patch. By the time I get it off the boat, drive to a shop that can take care of it, wait for them to sew it, (probably not the same day),and then the same in reverse, I can have it taken care of myself and spend the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day sailing or setting up the spi..
What kind of adhesive would be best. I can go to the hardware store and start reading labels but but thought someone else may have gotten a small hole in their tramp at some point and found something that worked well.
I also want to put a large grommet in the middle of the tramp for spi return, i'm sort of a do it yourself guy, I belive this can also be taken care of without removing the tramp. Does anyone have experience with this?

New thread and repeat.

Marine Goop: Back it up with fabric. Flexible, Lasts a LONG time. Then put on more if necessary. Holes in Woven tramps really like Goop.

I had a cigarette burn a hole in a tramp (imagine how pissed I was, especially since I don't smoke). Anyway, it was pencil-sized (in diameter). This was on a Hobie 16 mesh tramp.

I never fixed it, it never got bigger. Depending on how the hole got there, and whether it's in a stressed part of the tramp, you might not need to worry at all.

the cautery of the burning cig is what made that hole not expand.

That's what I was thinking too, which is why I said that depending on how the hole was made, it may not be a big deal. Defintiely something to keep an eye on, though.

When I redid the spin halyard on my old boat I burned a hole in the tramp for two screws over the front beam (tramp wrapped around the top of the beam). Never got bigger even though I forgot to tension the tramp before burning the holes.

I would go with the 3M Fast Cure 5200 adhesive. It's flexible and strong... Maybe put some duct tape under the tramp to serve as a form until it dries.

Here is a different tramp issue... I have an old H16 beach beater that the sun and salt had worn the black rubber coating off the surface of the tramp. The threads of the cloth was exposed and I was worried that it would not hold up very long. I used Plasti-Dip (paint on and spray) to coat the fabric. It was worked out great. If you get the quart size you will need to thin it to paint on. The spray went on smoother but not as thick.

3m makes a black 5200 that I used to fix a couple of small holes on my tramp (since it's black). I simply gooped it on both top and bottom over the area of the hole, and the result is barely visible after drying. Has held up well for two seasons so far.
