OMG, This is awesome. Check out the Calendar feature of this program. Finally there is place where event organizers can place their events all in one place, with comments and contact info.
Check it out.
You can add your events easily where everyone can view them.

Yes, he's a teenage girl again... Doesn't the new forum setup make us all giddy as schoolgirls?

It won't let me post public events for viewing by everyone (maybe that's a good thing?)

But it has always been a problem letting everyone know when events are taking place, and how to contact them.
Every winter I go nuts trying to get everyone to get me their schedules so we have ONE place for ALL events (I put them in the magazine by area.) That way, just pick up your magazine and look in the area you want to sail and you should be able to find an event to go to and with contact info.

But, this is even better, except that it does it by the date. Then click on the link and you have the contact info.

Wonder why you couldn't post one, Jake?

I can add an event to the calender, but my only option is for it to be "private" (in a drop down box when entering the new event). I presume this is a permissions setting and means I'm the only one that can see the event. I added it on Oct. 25th...can you see it?

The drop down box I see shows Private and Public. Maybe that is only for Admin. And I don't see anything for Oct 25. As you might see, I have been able to ad the Wave Youth Nationals, Steeplechase and the Wave Nationals (wrong place and have to redo)

Second Jake on the lack of a 'public' dropdown option.

Entered Slip to Ship (Memorial Day weekend 2009) and Island Hop (July 4th weekend 2009) as yearly events, no public option

I tried to add an event too. No option other than Private. Somewhere, Rick, in your forum setup there should be an option to allow forum members to make calendar postings public. Only problem is, who would moderate it?

It would be possible for someone to make a mistake and post the wrong date(s) or, worse still, deliberately put in wrong or conflicting dates.

While the calendar IS a great asset, its use and who is allowed to post to it needs some forethought.

maybe the posting has to be "approved" by administrator before it's public on the calendar?

I agree with that too - with everyone and everything having ability to post to the calendar, the formatting of the event entries will be highly inconsistent and the accuracy questionable.

Are you proposing a calendar admin, someone responsible for validating the content? Is that done with the current schedule?

Try it now.
As for posting bad info, heck I get that all the time anyway for the magazine.
Also, I can admin the thing. if it gets out of hand, I can shut if off again.

Yeah, that's cool. It's public now - and it appears that I'm the only one that can edit my event (and probably the admin).

Can you set it so that only users with over a minimum number of posts can post on the calendar or that you have to have been registered for a week can post to the calendar? That might reduce the trash potential.

No, It isn't that refined, unless I started another User Character, like Approved Users. And perhaps if it gets out of control, I could do that,
