So the question is??????? Why aren't your bags packed? If you can't find sailing in St Croix you are not looking. If its the job offer you're dreaming of, sailing is secondary. More things to ponder; 1.) Are you working now? 2.)If #1 is yes, is it the dream job? If not get the hell out of dodge, 3.) If #1 is no then you need a job, get the hell out of dodge. 4.) Do you live with your kids? Or do your kids live with you? If yes, get the hell out of dodge.

Point is quit dreaming and chasing, we can't live your dream for you. Go and tell us about it after it happens.

Has anyone been in touch with Bruce ?

Doug,
I lived there back in the 90's. My advise to you is; Stay out of the whore houses and go home when it gets dark. If you follow those 2 SIMPLE rules, everything will be smooooooth sailing.

Yes, I've been in contact with Bruce on and off over the last few months; he was VERY unwell; he's recuperating and may be sailing next summer.

He has an EU spec Inter 17 over there.

Clayton:

I am setting in hotel in San Juan. Last plane flight in a few to St Croix. YEA I am out of Dodge. And yes I was staying with daughter, as in this job it does not pay to keep apt as company pays for everything when you are on the road. Will let you know more next weekend when off about my catsailing as I can do it year round here.

No whore houses, BUT are there any safe rock and roll clubs to go to to dance? What about the bars in some of the resorts or casinos? Do you ever come here anymore? Isn't there a big Hienikin regatta somewhere around here? What about sailing in Porto Rico? Go there in June. Say hi to all the TCYC gang.

Go to Chenay Bay, east of C'sted. The beach cats are parked just west of the resort. Ask around @ CB. For the best skinny on the multihull scene on STX, ask for Lewellyn @ the Yacht Club.
His tri, Charis, has won everything there is to win in de ilons. The Heinekin is St Martin, BVI race week has a strong beach cat gang.

Doug,

If you get over to St Thomas, go to the St Thomas Yacht Club, in the Red Hook area. They have a beach cat fleet there ..... they organize the BVI/Rollex Cup out of that club I believe .....also it's the "home" yacht club of Peter & John Holmberg

In St Thomas and St John you need to go to the "LOVE SHACK" ... there maybe one in ST Croix also but I never got over to St Croix .... there are "local" ferries that run between the USVI's and also BVI

Doug,
Please reference rule #2 which reads; GO HOME WHEN IT GET'S DARK. Don't go dancing, don't go for an evening stroll, don't go get ice cream. You won't want to be sailing at night, so there will be NO reason for you to be out. Trust me on this one. I lived there. Carry your walet in your front pocket and your camara strap should have a break-away strap on it so they don't pull your head off when they steal it from you. I'm not a guy who is overly cautious, so I walked those streets many nights and saw some pretty vicious battles. Christiansted and Fredricksted have more crime per capita than New York City. The value of human life there is much lower than you are used to.

Doug,

If I remember correctly the "Atlantis" docks at the "Saffire" Resort which is quite close to Red Hook. The St Thomas Yacht Club is a couple doors down from the Ritz-Carlton Resort .... if you are standing at the Ritz looking out at the water "STYC" is to your right .... you used to be able to walk along the paths at the waters edge over to the club ... or you could drive over ... it's about 100-200yds. Duffy's "LOVE SHACK" is across the street from the ferry slip in Red Hook. If you want an EXCELLENT Dinning Experience try "The Blue Moon Cafe", it is located the next cove over from the Ritz and STYC. You dine on a covered verranda at the water's edge overlooking this beautiful cove/anchorage .... the food is awesome, expensive but awesome.

For a "day at the beach" I would recommend Megan's Bay/St Thomas or Trunk Bay/St John's .... both are beautiful ... Megan's Bay used to have a beach cat concession there (the owner/operator started sailing beach cats on the Chesapeake Bay/Ocean City Md) and there is neat waterside bar w/ bar service on the beach .... but Trunk's Bay is awesome and has been voted one of the World's 10 Best Beaches. There is a campground at Trunk's Bay that is World Famous, you may wish to stay there for a few days if you get the chance.

I think the "Rolex Cup" is usually around Easter in April ... I do not know the dates. I do remember the guys saying that they sail over to St Croix to attend a regatta.

News Years Eve the place to be is at Van Dyke's/(island???)BVI ... and another nice day trip is to go to "The Baths"/British Virgan Gorda, BVI .... there is a excellent bar/resturant at the top of the bluff/hill that has a spectacular view overlooking the anchorage and Drake's Channel .....

When my family goes to St Thomas for a Taxi we use "Mr Nice Guy" (340)690-7628 ... he operates a family taxi service island wide ... honest, and very dependable .... call him ... he will be waiting for you at the dock ....
