Just wondering if an Nacra SQ 16 would fit into the F16 box rules?
If so has anyone put a F16 rig onto a SQ16 platform?

Cheers
Chris

It's too wide. A SQ16 is 2.5 meter for the 2.4 called for in the box rule.

I think you will find 2.5m wide is allowed in F16.

Allways thought that the 16 square would be a possible, F16. Think some may have been fitted with spinnaker in QLD not sure?

Ooops, I stand corrected. I wrote it from memory, I thought it was 2.4m, but the box rule limit is actually 2.5. I'll shut up now...

How long is a 16sq? I know the 14 was more than 14 feet.

Nacra Australasia Website

Length: 5.0m
Width: 2.5m
Weight: 135kgs
Sail area: 16m2
Trapeze: 1
Spinnaker: Optional

so platform should be fine but main is too big, I wonder how long the mast is?

Looks like the platform is fine then including hulls, beams, tramp but the mast need a bit of adjustment with a hack saw…
A better alternative would be to get a new F16 optimised mast and sail for the SQ16 platform, should work technically but may not be that economical…

Saw a brand new SQ16 last weekend in Townsville, this SQ16 had the spinnaker option but it was not used on the day.
So SQ16 with kites do exist in QLD.

Thanks
Chris

This thread just reminded me of the Nacra nationals in victor a couple of years ago. I was on one of the rescue boats and one of the sailors on the 16's called us over and handed us his car keys. he managed to sail about a mile out to sea in about 5 knots with a big swell, with the keys sitting on the deck of the hull by the bow.
