Pictures from the Cinco de Mayo Regatta at Lake Lanier are available at www.saillanier.com. A number of F-16s participated.

Results are still not posted.

Nice turn out of F16 boats.

Oley, it didn't show you with crew ... were you a UNI at this race?

Any change of getting the elasped time results ?

Afteral we have Lynn Olsen on the F16 going mano-a-mano against Mike Krantz on the A. with also David Lennard (A) in the mix.

That should be some dependable data for comparison.

I would also like to see to what extent Geoff Smith nacra 17 results (3 bullets in a row) are the result of the Nacra 17 USPN handicap that is 6% slower to the F16's and 3.5% slower then the A's.

Of course the A's are also rated 2.5% slower then the F16's and so the elasped time data will also be very interesting for the comparison between F16 and A's.

Unless you guys all raced first in wins in the fleet, which considering the boats would not have been a bad call at all.

So can someone get his or her hands on the elasped time results ?

Thank you

Wouter

Nice fleet indeed

5 F16's
2 A-cats
1 F18
1 Nacra 17

How nice from the 16 sailors to have the others join "their class start" ! grin

I trust you all enjoyed yourselfs. In the pics I saw Lynn regulary trailing close to Mike at the weather mark. That must have been a thrill

We are getting there !

Slowly, but surely.

Wouter,

I asked, but I couldn't get the elapsed times.

My recollection is that I beat most of the F-16s boat-for-boat in races 1-3 (I realize I can't prove this). I don't think the handicap was a much of a factor in races 1-3. These races had pretty light wind.

I think the handicap was a factor in race 4. The wind came up towards the end of this race, and I probably didn't deserve a third place finish in race 4.

This was my first race back on the I17R in years. It is actually Randy's boat. With the smaller spinnaker, more stability (heavier and beamier?), and more neutral steering it seemed more forgiving of my mediocre technique going around the marks than the Blade I co-own. It was nice being able to release the tiller and put up the spinnaker without having the boat come up or bear off. We also set more mast rake on the I17R than I ever used in the past (18" behind transom) and the boat was pointing really well.

Geoff

Thanks for your effort of getting the elapsed time results Geoff,

What I'm most interested in is whether you beat all the other F16's in one race or more where you 1st. I short, would you also get three 1st's when the racing had been on elapsed time

And ehh ...

I trust you to be honest. grin

Thanks again,

I do know that Andy and I on the Viper were first across the line in race 3 on Saturday and Oley (single on the Blade) was 1st and we were 2nd across in the 4th race. On the 3rd race we corrected to 4th and in the 4th race we both stayed 1st and 2nd on corrected times.
