David, I don't think they were going upwind. Looking at the tracking replay feature, it appears that they had a dogleg finish after the last gate. I don't see the SIs anywhere, so it's hard to know for sure.
BTW, what a horrific gate rounding. Big pile of boats in no wind. Looked like an Italian boat got manhandled (pushed into the mark with no way out)...

there might be an issue with race 5. that it over-ran the time limit! They have been pretty strict with the 15min after the 1st place finisher rule, so this may stick.
