The NOR for the Great Texas has now been posted on the GT300.com website.

The Great Texas will be held June 14-18 starting in South Padre and finish in Galveston.

Early registration closes on May 1st. Early registration is $350 while late registration increases to $450.

We expect a big crowd for this year's race. Most everyone from last year plans to be back and we have a number of new teams expecting to show too.

You can sail just about any production spin boat in this race.

Hope to see you on the starting line in June.

As long as it's 18-22 feet long.

This is a fast freekin race. The first two legs are 100 plus miles. I think the record is 5.5 hours for the first leg (105 miles). Leg one is (as Chris Green puts it) pure sailing euphoria. It's like a hundred mile run from "A" mark to "C" mark. It can be a bit tactical too and not just a follow the leader race.
One year, we averaged 25 knots on leg three (60 miles). It's a fun and challenging race. I wish someone would show up with a Tornado sometime.

I've done a write up about the Great Texas (GT 300). The target audience is local folk who have heard about the race, day dreamed of doing it, but are not sure what is involved in getting to the start line.

At less than $2000 to do the race if you are in Texas* - or less than $3000 if you are elsewhere in the U.S. the GT represents a adventure bargain. Fast, challenging racing along a wild coastline - and no wetsuit or dry suit required.

*Some teams do it for less than $1500. I don't think they are eating dog food - but Burlein's Gumbo does have an unusual taste...

Chris Green.

Staying in the RV last year we spent 1100 including epirb rentals, fuel, and boat modifications.

I know after registration fees, I was able to come from California and do it comfortably with $2000 and have money left over even driving the gas guzzling Bronco.
