Reading on new cats, and they list out an option as Up Kicker?

What is that? System to raise the dagger boards by line?

Thanks

Up F----er is the common term!!!, particularly when you're bearing off around the top marks and you can't get the boards up because of the pressure....

It's a strap or piece of rope connected halfway down the the daggerboard so when you yank on it is comes up to halfway for the downwind legs. Works well on the first leg but can get wrapped and tangled during the race and become very difficult to raise.

Guys have now got a set up running up the side stays so they can raise the windwards boards from the wire as they're approaching the mark. The leeward board still has to get raised so the term's still valid, especially in anything over 18 knots...
