Stepping the mast #24191

At the base of the mast and in the mast base there are holes, i found a pin that came with the boat that looks like it should go there but i dont know what it does, is it for stepping the mast? please help me out

You are probably missing the link (hinge) that attachs the two together. Here's a photo from the Murray's catalog. The part would also be available from catsailor.com and at your dealer.

Thanks alot!! that really helped, and yes i did fine the hinge in a big bag of extra parts that the guy gave that i bought it from. Is this so that teh mast doesnt swing from side to side when stepping it? Also what is the website for murrays?

The stepping link stops the base of the mast flying up out of the base when you lower the mast. If you don't use it, make sure you have someone holding down the base of the mast very securely unless you want your mast to crash down. Since I don't actually use one, I'm not sure if it helps keeping the mast in line, however I doubt it.
