Did you sail enough? What were your goals? Did you meet them?

What was the single-most standout moment of the year?

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned?

What do you hope for 2012?

Did you meet them? Don't feel like I did.

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? Nearly cutting the port hull of a port tacking A cat in two ,with my forestay.

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? Again, Money never hurts a program.Unemployed sucks/ no money but lots of time equals a tease.

What do you hope for 2012? Lose weight and sail ALOT more to achieve the goals of last year.

Did you meet them? Almost

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? 8th place in one race at NA's! Oh....there was that wedding too. grin

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? It's very easy to oversheet the main, and when you do, you're slow.......really slow!

What do you hope for 2012? new boat!

I didn't hardly sail at all this year, didn't come close to finishing in the top 20 at the 16 NAC.

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? For me it was sailing the big day in Ft Walton Bch. My son and I had never been in water like that before.

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? Unfortuneatly, it was that not everyone that acts like your friend IS your friend in the sailing universe.

What do you hope for 2012?
From the HCA perspective, I hope we attain our next membership goal so we can continue to spend money on things that need to have money spent on them. (mostly youth stuff)

John: I drove through Seal Beach, Belmont shores and LB the other day, I forget how awesome it is up there.

Did you sail enough? Is that really possible?

What were your goals? sail more than I did in 2010

Did you meet them? Thanks to some generous boat owners, yes

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? Day 2 Hiram's Haul screaming reach double trapped with 440# on the wire and still flying a hull. Oh, and that "Karl's Wedding" thing. Table 5 RULES

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? "Kandi" isn't her real name.

What do you hope for 2012? That 2012 doesn't turn out as bad as that movie of the same title.

Had I gone to Karl's bachelor party, I would have missed the a$$ whoopin on Ding at Macho. Gotta have priorities you know... boobies can wait cause Ding's not getting any younger and he may retire soon so I want to make sure I'm in his will for the boat.

Did you sail enough? - Nope!

What were your goals? - To sail more than '10,get more experience on the F-27

Did you meet them? - Nope! Marked decrease from the amount of sailing in '10...

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? - Winning the beach cat class for Annapolis to Oxford, and the starboard tack upwind leg of the Hammond Memorial - big crew, double trapped, biggish wind and waves, lingering pain, almost winning (again).

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? - when you have ankle biters, you can only get half of the boat chores done that you need to do on any given day. Most times half is wonderful if you can get it. Plan accordingly...

What do you hope for 2012? - Sail more... Corsair Nationals is on the Bay this year, want to prep and do that...

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned?
I can get a good start on a big line.

Did you sail enough? No such thing.

What were your goals? Get on the water (at all) with newborn and 4-year old boys.

Did you meet them? Exceeded the goal! Went sailing with Hunter (although not as much as I'd have liked), raced a Wave a few times, and even wound up buying a nearly-new Wave! I did more RC work than I planned (always works out that way), and did a lot more camping with the family than I expected. Of course, my garage has paid the price, might take all winter to catch up on projects...

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? Well, it would have been buying the Wave, then I found out that I inherited the Multihull Council by default.

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? There are many people in our little community that are actually really smart and helpful, once you get past their online personas. One can't be open-minded enough.

What do you hope for 2012? More Wave racing, more sledding with Hunter (need snow first), more sailing with Hunter, more camping with the family, balanced RC load, and a clean garage. Oh, and World Peace (in the form of a more functional MHC). I guess the garage may have to wait...

1. no, early season damage/repairs and late season wife's brain cancer recurrence took a toll.

2. didn't make race total goals but did learn to sew my own sail repairs!

3. stand out was 3rd. place finish in the round cat island race...huge seas, strong winds, beat a nacra 20 and corsair 27 on my '77 prindle 16!

4. ah ha!...sail all you can because NOTHING in this life is guaranteed(don't wait for retirement to enjoy the ride)

5. 2012... more distance racing, like it more than rounding triangular courses and getting my wife healthy again, she likes the boat too!

Did you sail enough? I sailed my butt off in 2011 - had a really satisfying season with training sessions, coaching on and off the water, and regattas.

What were your goals? Did you meet them? My goal was to medal in the PanAm Games - did not meet that goal. After a truly fantastic and fulfilling season, it all slipped away in a single bad day. That's boat racing.

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? There were many moments when I was able to be sincerely appreciative of my particularly fortunate circumstances; the standout was on the way to the start line in Puerto Vallarta with Greg Thomas. We had a good conversation, and I'm grateful for his friendship.

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? Through lots of advice on the beach from the fleet, coaching from the Glasers, and working with Greg continuously to improve, we discovered a couple of things that resulted in very fast tacks on a Hobie 16 - that was the one thing, with a number of smaller elements, that I took away from my return to the 16.

What do you hope for 2012? My season hasn't yet crystallized - I've got a lot of things up in the air. My dearest hope, not specifically for my benefit, is a well-run and memorable F18 Worlds for the fleet in September.

John, since (perceived) lack of tacking speed is an oft-given reason for people hating Hobie 16s, can you share? Probably best to start a new thread.

Really. Perceived.

Note, I didn't say "easy" as there is definitely more technique required to tack a Hobie 16 quickly, and it is much more unforgiving than most other boats; but when done properly, they can be tacked much faster than most people think.

Your goal should be to move closer to the action.

Did you sail enough? What were your goals? Did you meet them? I sailed enough - less than normal but the plan was to put more time in the home business and a little less on the water (accomplished...but the trend will continue somewhat through 2012). The goal was to get back into F18 racing. I've had a lot of bad results followed by some really good ones. I've gained more speed in heavier air (but seemed to have traded that for light air) Goal met but with a trade off...working on the light air speed this year.

What was the single-most standout moment of the year? The second day of steeplechase making a 3rd place finish on day 2 (corrected).

What was the one "ah ha!" thing you learned? Robby Daniel behind me in a power boat with me on my a-cat while he screamed "sheet in" through a bull horn repeatedly...finally followed by "there". New speedy groove found upwind and I have a new reference point for what a really narrow groove feels like and how fast it can be if you can keep it there.

What do you hope for 2012? 1 or 2 1st place finishes
