Hi all,

big weekend of sailing at Boga, thanks to Garry J and all the crew at LBYC for making us feel welcome, nothing quite like country hospitality, loved all the FREE fruit.

Great roll up of boats 22 Cat rigs and 7 sloops, when you think of some of the boats missing, the Mossie class is certainly healthy in Vic, but we need to keep working on it as many are, by being open and friendly, offering advice and help when needed to other sailors.

As expected winds where light most of the weekend, first heat was windiest (trapeze strength mostly) and it just tapered off from then. Apart from the boat in the front of the cat rig fleet that cleared out most races, everybody else found it close racing, to close on many occasions cry . Well done to Shannon Wilson who looks like he is becoming a light wind specialist in the Mk1's and to Neil Joiner and Brendon Warren-Smith who overcame the so often talked about heavy crew weight problems in Mk2 to triumph anyway.

Full results are on the VMCA site.

There are some photos in the album now as well.

We certainly got what we were expecting - and maybe a bit more than some of us were expecting!

It's a rare thing to go from 5th to 29th (ie. last) in the space of 30 seconds, and then take back 10 places in the next 5 minutes, and still make it back to the first 10 by the end of the race... but this sort of thing just kept on happening!!!!

It certainly kept us on our toes.

What blew me away at presentation was the reports of all the capsizes that had happened - somehow I had missed ALL of them.

Clap hanger nominations
=======================
Gary Johnson - no sure what he did but he was nominated. I believe he was one of the swimmers.
Sarah Floyd - capsizing with excessive squealing
Peter Lyons - capsizing twice in one race, one right on the finish line
Daniel Stone - dropping his GPS over the side during the race
Rob Lott - parking at the finish line to let everyone through before he finished (I'm sure he wasn't the only one that happened to).
Neil Joiner - getting rather excited on approach to the finish line when there were 15-20 cat rigs sitting around the finish line, and 3 sloops on his tail - "bugger-off you lot".

Peter Lyons received the prestigious award for his dedication to entertaining the spectators.

Hi all,

I saw Garry J capsize, it was your classic backbottle in a big wind shift, couldn't stop laughing grin. With him, not at him of course whistle. You would think that a local would know better wink.

The bad news was he recovered quickly and soon after got ahead of me again, improving his place at the next mark to 2nd cry.
