Hey, I just bought a hobie 14 unirig. I want to add the jib at some point to convert it over, but right now i just want to be able to trap out. It already has the dolphin striker so do i just need to put some trap lines on? Or do I need to change the chain plates? What adjustments should i make to it?

Ben

Good to hear you finally got a 14! I told you when you got one, I would pester you to show up to a few races!!

If you have the dolphin striker, the only thing you need to do is add the trapeze wires. I suggest attaching them to the large shackle at the mast tang with individual smaller shackles, or to use a really big shackle and put everything on it. This keeps all the wires frim binding on each other.

This is a link for line lengths on a 14: http://www.nahca.org/hobies/hobie14_linelengths.htm

If you want to convert it to a Turbo, I still have a new jib I got from a bulk order deal. I also can help out in the Maxi conversion--wether you need parts or advice..

Camp Hatteras is coming up at the end of August and there should be 3 14 Maxis!!!

Dan, that would be great. Can you give me a ballpark figure for a turbo conversion(it already has chains & jib block wire) and for the maxi rig? Price will play a pretty big role in whether or not I decide to go turbo or maxi. If you could email me at tee2greene@hotmail.com that'd be great. Thanks

There is a harken small boat furler on ebay now if you need to start buying maxi rigging. I think there is also a TheMightyHobie18 furler which you will need for the jib furling.
