Tornado's are 20' long. You might be thinking of the Hobie 21.

The Tornado is a 20' cat with a 10' beam. It is used primarliy for racing and must be dissasembled to trailer as it is too wide for public roads. The Hobie 21's have the SE (also a 10' beam but the beams pull apart to widen and slide in to trailer) and the Sport Cat, which has a built in cubby and is more for cruising. Both Hobies have wings, the Tornado does not. The Hobie 21's are best for people who don't trailer as it is such a pain to set them up. What kind of sailing are you looking to do?

Not strictly true, There are a number of 'tilt' trailers on the market that mean it is possible to tow them made up :

I like the tow vehicle. Plenty of oomph.

Tornado info is readily available at the official site ( ITA ) and the unofficial Yahoo discussion forum ( TornadoCat ). Current discussions are centering around the "Open Source" tornado building project

I have loads of rigging pics at my photo site ( My Rigging Pics ).

What else do you want to know?

P.S. Thanks for posting my Tilt Trailer picuture Simon! I'm glad someone out there remembers it! I do have a different trailer now...my homebuilt one:

Full Tilt Trailer

Question for Mike?

Why do you have 5 patches on our spinnaker?

Kris

St. Louis, MO,
I'm guessing that it's got the patches for the 3 patch meathod of snuffing into a midpole hoop. It's also got the 2 patches for snuffing from an end pole snuffer.

Sail came with the boat that way...currently we run 3 patches, but our mid-pole Guck Skunk snuffer should be able to run a two patch sail. My newer sail has only 3 patches. My crew dislikes the effort required to snuff/hoist this newer sail. The word from the Tboat boat experts at the nationals in November was that newer/crispier sails are harder to snuff and that 3 patcher's do require more effort since the cloth bunches up into a larger diameter. My older sail is also Dynalite with silicon impregenated into the cloth...this seems to make a huge difference. Charlie Ogletree mentioned he doesn't like Dynalite though...doesn't hold its shape as well.

Mike.
