I recently purchased a Nacra 500, and because of some life changing events have had to sell it right away. It's still in the factory crates. I've already listed it on the Catsailer ads.

I was wondering what other places are the best to list it? It's in San Diego now. Used to be the local "Reader" paper was the place to list them. Is the Boat Trader worth it? Is the local (SD) paper (Union-Tribune)a good place? Where do you guys go when looking to buy?

Thanks,
EZ

Try www.thebeachcats.com and www.sailingtexas.com . Sailing Texas, despite its name, is nationwide and you will get some quick responses if the price is fair. I posted a monohull for sale on that site and I had a buyer in less than 2 days.

Jack,

Did you read his post. Hobie also has a classified section.

Thanks for the info on online sites. Seems like that's a better way to reach more people, vs local paper/trader. Since it's still crated it's probably easier for someone out of the area to either pick up or ship to them.

Can't you take it back to where you bought it and have the local dealer sell it for you? Pay him a commission. Might be quicker/easier/cheaper than shipping it cross country.

Try this FREE on-line classified site. I've used it for renting a condo and selling my Laser with great results. Check to see if it serves your area. Ed

The boat was to be shipped to Hawaii. By catching it before it shipped I saved a bunch in shipping costs. The way the local dealer works here is (he has a monopoly) you pay a non-refundable down payment, then when it ships you're charged the remainder. It had shipped but I caught it before it got put on the barge.

We couldn't work out other arrangements (him reselling it or holding it until it sells) The market here is weak, so I opted to keep it on the mainland where the chance of finding a buyer is much higher.

Sucks but that's the way things go sometimes, got to cut your losses.

Crewdog,

Thanks for the tip. They did have a section for San Diego so I posted it there. I didn't even know some of these places were out there.

Is the Nacra 500 a good cat to single hand?

I noticed in one web site that it doesn't have a boom. What are the pros and cons of not having a boom?

No boom means one less thing to smack you in the head. It also reduces setup time a little. The downside is that you don't quite have the same control over the mainsail shape that you do with a boom.

Both with spinnakers or the N6.0 factory without chute?
